What Makes You Spoiled?

Recommended Posts

I interpret being spoiled as not having to face the life challenges that make a person resilient because of the unearned actions of others. Trust fund babies come to mind.

I have on occasion felt spoiled , when someone is kind to me repeatedly Moreso than I think I deserve. And that's really nice.

But to BECOME spoiled...it isn't a good thing. Spoiled...ruined. To be spoiled on occasion or by someone special is nice...but too much, leads to entitlement. As a parent, I have to keep my daughter in check . I don't want her think every day of her life will begin with coffee in bed and singing good morning . So, I'm going to stop. Soon.

Oh woww, how many times have I been told I'm spoiled...

The funny thing is that I DID face all of my life's challenges by myself, and I have reached pretty neat goals BY myself..

I was told I am spoiled by 2 boyfriends..but to be honest I think they confuse it with something else, I just don't know what it is...because see, I've ALWAYS done everything myself without asking them for anything..(of course I didnt say no when they did do things for me, but thats just part of a mutual relationship right?)

So this here is a puzzle for me too OP

Spoiled to me is when someone flips out whenever they don't get their way. Their coping skills are nil. Their ability to empathize with someone else's plight is nonexistent. It's a "me me me" mentality.

"Spoiled" has nothing to do with being privileged, or having material possessions. It is about displaying negative character traits ie. expecting to get your way all the time, sense of entitlement, tantrums, sulking, self-centeredness, general immaturity etc. etc.

If you are being called spoiled, it may serve you well to ask what in particular makes this person feel you are acting as such - take it in, and listen carefully and without rebuttal. Then, take a good look at your character and personality, and work on improving it.
