Pocky
For the past few weeks I have continuously smelled smoke. It feels like a smoker is sitting next to me and the second hand smoke keeps wafting across my face. Sometimes it's so strong I want to go some place else so I can get fresh air. It's really become irritating. I did some research online, but there's very little information. Figured this is a far shot, but anyone have any experience with this?

Author Pocky
Yeah, crap like that happens to me when I'm dropping acid. Watcha doing over there, Pocky? HAH! It's been ten years since I did that..Flashbacks, maybe? I'm thinking maybe a sinus infection but I just finished two weeks of antibiotics. Guess I'll be visiting the doctor this week...I hate taking off work.
Merin
Pocky is it possible that you have a sweater or something that you're wearing that cigarette smoke may have "attached itself" to when you were in the presense of a smoker? I find that often if I've worn a coat or sweater around a smoker that the smell will cling to my clothing and it stays there.. also where I work.. if a heavy smoker has been in the reception room because it's somewhat enclosed and small that the scent of the cigarette smoke from either thier clothing or thier person will stay in the room for awhile.. Dakini
Pocky, It's very likely that you ARE smelling smoke. Often times, the air intakes for building HVAC systems are on the ground floor, often right next to where the smokers stand. (Smart design, huh!) This happens in my building all the time. It also happens at home in my apartment where all the ducts converge (esp. in the closet near the air intake). Check the filters. usually the people who are supposed to change them never do, esp. in an office building.
Author Pocky
Well I don't go to bars or clubs anymore so I wouldn't have clothing that should smell strongly of smoke and I do wash my clothes regularly I own my home so I don't have to worry about the apartment setting and someone smoking nearby and it leaking into my place. And it's not just at home. It's constantly. Sitting on the couch, in the basement, in the car, at work, in the elevator, on the metro. It's as though I have an ashtray tied to my nose and that's all I smell. I'm getting pyschosomatic too I think because my eyes are always burning, my throat hurts and I feel tightness in my chest. I'm going to ER tomorrow after work. I'll go insane if this lasts much longer. I've searched and searched online and I've found some information about others experiencing this, but nothing that gives any information as to what it would be related to. I keep thinking about the past few months to see if anything may be related. I had an awful episode of vertigo about three-four months ago and they did a spinal tap but didn't find anything. The vertigo lasted about three months and then I had an awful sinus infection. I took an antibiotic (I haven't had an antibiotic for two years!) and about three weeks ago I noticed the vertigo is gone, but now I have this nasty ass ashtray smell.
