It's always the really pretty ones that go for money. I have never met a pretty woman with a poor husband

Posted

I've used the illusion of wealth trick quite a few times myself. This included a borrowed Maserati. I did get laid each time, but it's not a tool I would use when I'm looking for a relationship.

Meh, people like whatever they like. I don't give a crap about cars (my guy's first car was a 10+ year old hatchback), but I find ambition and dedication to career very attractive in a man. Other women might be different. Whatever floats anyone's boat.

Why does it matter, anyway? Lots of people like things that other people dislike or find trivial. If I were to trouble myself over all the silly requirements that every man and woman in the world has, I'd go bananas.

Of course some people (in this case women) go for wealth. Often it's their only chance to get out of a crappy set up. Who can blame them.

You would be surprised what women find impressive/cool..I need a pickup truck for my business, and I do treat myself here as I have a really nice, all black, diesel powered rig...Its loud and powerful, makes a little black smoke like all diesels do, .Its all decked out and black is my favorite color, but I am frankly shocked at how much of a pussy magnet that damned truck is!...Even the business suit types are all over it!..

.Not really sure why?? Its just a nice work truck!..*shrug*

Just admit it ... a part of you enjoyed it. :)

Funny. When I owned a Porsche that I bought 100% with my own money, everyone thought I must have got it from a man somehow (I'm a woman).

Even my co-workers asked me where I got the money (because my field isn't exactly known for creating lots of rich people). I told them that I bought a house well below my means... I don't have any debt... and didn't have a spouse to tell me no. :)

Anyway, there were times I really had a field day with that stereotype... I'd play that song from Kanye West full blast with the top down just for fun.

I suppose to this day there are some people who might think I have a thing for fancy cars... no. Not really. I have a thing for beautiful engineering... and frugality in general. The modern electric or hybrids are more fascinating to me right now than an expensive sports car.

Although, On my bucket list is restoring an old Karmann Ghia (see below). Yea, it has a VW engine. It's no sports car.

So yea, if the guy doesn't know the specs on his ride (whatever it is), he probably wouldn't impress me that much. It's just a car. I'm not impressed by flashy things. More impressed with how things work.

1958-Volkswagen-Karmann-Ghia-front-right-side-view.jpg

For the past yr i've been looking on mobile.de for a good old Beetle to get for myself as a daily driver.

The lines are amazing ... even an old 34hp air cooled one looks better than a modern Beetle.

The simplicity of the design and after doing the calculations it seems it will be cheaper to own and operate as a daily driver than just about ... anything.

This is very shocking for Europe because older cars are unbelievably discouraged.

Karmann Ghia's also appear but they are more expensive.

Whats wrong with a Dacia, Radu?

Posted

Ahhhh ... how can i answer this and not appear like a shmuck ... :)

The old Beetle is a classic car and there are few around.

On that basis if i wanted a classic Dacia i'd try to get one of the rare Renault CKD kits assembled here [or Citroen ones].

Or the ones that had a not so great production run like the 1410 2door Sport [imagine a Renault 12 with 2 doors].

Nice Dacia rat - would gather a crowd at the local car shows. Why? Because it's different.

Now,

at the Rock Store and guess who's wealthy and who's not. We know one person is. The rest, well, life can be an interesting journey.

This thread caught my eye because my rat truck got totaled a couple weeks ago by an old lady running a stop light and I've been, instead of looking to win the lottery with the insurance company, scouring Cail, Nevada and Arizona looking for another one. Found one up in Grass Valley, not far from where Chuck Yeager lives, so am headed up there. Pretty amazing the time one has to do things when not embroiled in romance and relationships. Like.

My BIL just got a seven speed '15 Vette and that car is fantastic. It's this cool color orange with black out tires and it just looks so good.

It's mostly just parked in their garage right now and it looks too good to be sitting in there. It looks like it should be in a movie.

Wow this thread is really old...I thought maybe I resurrected it by mistake somehow...I'm glad I'm not the only person who posted today.

That's just regular maintenance ... probably never fixed on a grand scale.

Probably original paint.

Looking at those cars when i was little i started to realize how to figure out if a car is rear-engined or front engined.

That's basically the Renault 8/10 and there was a performance version of it made by Gordini. The local copy only had 1 engine type ... the 1100cc ... hence the name Dacia 1100.

I hope one day i will afford to own a Renault Gordini [of any type].

I'll settle for an Alpine A110 with an original 1600cc engine though. :)

I suspect it's a turbine engine since there is a visible transmission to the back wheel.

Cool, I'm woefully ignorant on Euro cars, though I did get an introduction to Soviet cars back in the 1990's when I was traveling to the CIS. Ha, my driver though drove a new (at the time) Kia. Would love to go barn-hopping in Europe sometime.

Jay's bike? Yeah, that's a Allison/Rolls Royce turbine engine, most commonly used to power helicopters. When one hangs out at such gigs, or at car shows, one never knows who one will run into. Yeah, some are shiny bauble collectors with egos to match but plenty are low-key and really into the cars and having money simply lets them immerse.

Yeah, I had a mom like that. Still have her turbocharged T'bird. She was pedal to the metal all the way. Made it through her whole life without ever causing a wreck. God only knows how. :D

Yeah, that reminds me of my driver's car. He was an old jet jock (Soviet military) who still had a prop plane and drove his car the same way. I never had so much fun in a little (to me) car. I remember the young Ukrainian guys being in awe of my 'big' diesel pickup. That kind of stuff was unheard of in Ukraine at that time. Lotsa fun. Car guys are everywhere :D

Did you see one of these ?

Growing up my neighbor had one of these and i always admired it's lines ... they felt so clean compared to anything else out there [old french cars ... locally produced french cars and soviet copies of Italian cars ... with the ocasional Wartburg and Trabant sprinkled in for good measure].

They also made a coupe.

I mentioned Wartburg above ... i never saw a more beautiful coupe being made behind the Iron Curtain :

Let's face it ... it's a crotch-rocket and he needed everyone to know he had the crotch for it.

That also explains the skin tight jeans and the bulge.

I love big cars. That's a passion I must have inherited from both parents (although from my mother's side the older generation too has had a special place in their hearts for cars). Only difference is that I'll get them myself rather than jump into a relationship for them.

My mom always drove me to kindergarden in her red Calibra, and still smiles when she thinks about all the people staring at it.

Funny we were just having this discussion at work today. (Group of guys and women)

All the girls more or less tried to play the high road and say it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but that a guy with a truck/SUV or sports car does have more "sex appeal," than a guy with a Civic. They also were in agreement that it's more socially acceptable for a younger guy with less income to drive around a Honda Civic (because that's all he can afford) but by the time a man hits 40 he should in theory have his stuff together and be able to drive something a little nicer.

Now to be clear sex appeal doesn't always equate to a successful long term relationship. But let's be real and push aside political correctness: A man who is financially successful often gets the door open to relationships more often just like a nice smile or good looking face.

Cars to guys are a status symbol. It's like a peacock who throws up his feathers. It's the reason a woman wears lipstick. We do what we can to appear attractive to others.

Check out this 2015 Superbowl commercial from here in the States that sums this up nicely: http://ispot.tv/a/7xYY

Since many people my age are driving around minivans, as long as a guy isn't driving that (I detest them) I don't care. I like cars, I like luxury cars, but I also like practicality. They don't define me and I don't view them defining others. So I have had an Escape as well as a Mercedes SUV and I always have my truck. They all have purposes and while I appreciate the bells and whistles in the higher priced cars I am fine without them.

I have never been impressed with a guy that tried to hard with his car. I don't appreciate a lot of effort when trying to attract the opposite sex. It just seems desperate.

You like horses, some guys like cars....

Doesnt mean there is anything wrong with you, or them...Not saying this of you, but it puzzles me when some women just immediately assume that a guy must have an inferiority complex or small dick, because he likes hot cars/trucks...Is it entirely possible that its just his hobby(like anything else) and he doesnt really give a shyt what women think of it, and he's not doing it to "try hard"?

My dad bought me my first car when I was 15 (a couple months from turning 16). It was 1970 Mustang Fastback, freshly painted, interior redone and perfect running condition. A car was never just transportation to me.

I don't sit on my car trying to pick-up girls. My car is not so outlandishly extravagant that I think anyone other than other car enthusiast would even note it. I don't point to my car and think a girl will want me more. I am not "trying hard". My style and approach to everything is a bit on the reserved side.

I'm not trying to be the biggest guy at the gym. My car does not have a wing on it, nor is it above my means. I don't "style" my hair. My t-shirts are not tight.

I do try hard, but I am certain I don't look like I am "trying hard". I know what quality is. I know form and function. I like balance and simplicity. I have my own style. It's kinda like you see ability, potential and power underneath it all. It's not about being in your face about it, that is to be avoided. You see it and you think 'this is it' and not 'this is trying to be it'.

I pick up on women fine without them knowing much about me. Women like what they see. I'm not a player. I'm not trying to meet women just to have sex with them. But it's hard to not notice when a girl starts getting sexually aroused or how attitudes change.

Maybe some of the girls are just as into cool cars as you are and that makes you more interesting, not because of $$??

If a guy is into cars "to get women" as the title of the thread says, then yes that is desperate. I am not into horses because it has anything to do with any romantic desires. So that is the basis of the thread. Not about a guy who just likes cars. Which is something totally different. A hobby or interest is fine. But it is not about "getting" anything else because of it.

So . . . . hit a nerve much? ;)
