Can Kicking my SODA habit, shed some weight?

[color=red]This is a DUMB Question.

 

A buddy of mine said he cut out Drinking Soda and he lost some weight.

 

I know they have high calories, but can this really shed some pounds?

 

I drink about 3 a day, everyday. I hate Diet soda.[/color]

Absolutley!

 

Soda contains a lot of empty calories... You'll notice a difference;)

if you replaced three regular 12 oz. sodas per day with diet soda or water you'd save about 450 calories per day

 

this translates to 3,200 calories saved per wk. To lose one pound you must save 3,500 calories.

 

so you would essentially be losing almost one pound per wk, or 4 pound/month, just by this modification alone.

YES! GIVE UP THE EVIL SODA!

 

Soda is bad because it truly is a can of empty calories as mentioned before. Try iced tea or water instead (not juice). The sugar content is unbelievably high. Believe me, dropping the soda habit is tough because both caffeine and sugar are an addiction but you'll be better off drinking it only sparingly or never.

i dropped about 25 pounds in a few months, and i wasn't even trying to lose weight, i just switched to diet soda and water.

 

and i hated diet soda too-- now i have acquired a taste for it and i can't drink any other kind of soda when i do drink it.

 

go for it. it's great to see how much of a difference it makes!

I had no idea. I guess I just never really thought about it.

Guess I'll quit it today and stick with Water and Iced Tea

Without Sugar of course.

You can eliminate a lot of calories by not drinking soda. Not to mention it is vary bad for you. Mechanics use soda to break down the rust on car batteries. Soda is full of sugar. Cancer feeds on sugar, it just loves it. That's why there is an increase in cancer these days. All that sugar. Our bodies need a balanced pH, and sodas, processed foods, etc, make us too acidic. Then we get sick. But DON'T switch to nutrasweet, EVER!!! It is horrible, and absolute poison. Eat the right foods... This includes lots of muscle building protein, and vegetables,and other healthy pH balanced foods, and water.

i am/ was a huge candy fiend! i was never with out a piece....in hind sight, i think my meds at the time had a lot to with it....but i had to stop, so i did, cold turkey...i seriously lost 6 lbs. in like less than a month!

well, everyone knows soda's not the best choice, but if you can't do without it, diet is ok.many people have been drinking it for years with no issues. good for you for trying to make a conscious effort to be healthier. remember that you can't be safe eating or drinking anything anymore without hearing it can kill you. sooner or later they'll tell you vegetables cause penis shrinkage and clubfoot. whatever. you're going to die anyway, might as well have what you want--even it's responsibly!

it's because they have acids in them, like amino acids, citric acid....

 

and Equal and sweet-n-low stuff, those cause cancer in lab rats that ate an equivalent of like 20lbs ....or some outragious number like that.

Yeah ya know, I've heard that....Moderation, Moderation. But it's true.

 

 

This post really helped. I mean, I have The Greatest intentions and am

always trying to eat healthier and not gorge or commit sugar debauchery,

But i have this weird addictive nature sometimes, I just can't quit.

 

But thinking about Cancer and about how Bad processed foods are and

fast food and all that, kinda turns a guy around. My eating habits are horrible

right now, and I'm 29 years old. Not fat but not in shape. I'll bet if

I cut out all the ice cream and soda and chocolate, i'd sleep and feel a lot

better than I do most days.

We all would feel tons better if we cut all the bad out and only ate good foods but it's easier said than done. I still eat unhealthy foods. It has helped me to be more aware of the side effects unhealthy eating habits can have. I am not overweight either but I get nervous about getting diabetes, cancer or heart disease.

 

I don't know I guess Girldown is right...I am a weird-ass.

My dad has it and My grandfather had it, Actually died from complications

and a combination of abusing his body with sugars and alcohol.

 

Cancer also runs in the family. Colon cancer actually. So My soda consumption

and sugar intake and lack of good old water,

fruit and veggies....is NOT helping matters. I really do need to stop.

But yeah, it's easier said than done.

 

I think it's that we think we need to stop Cold Turkey. But in actuality, It's all

about simple moderation. I just need to cut down, way down for a while and then

have sugar and soda and junk food in moderation.

I've made the switch to diet soda... but the only ones I like are Diet Pepsi or Coke. I've also cut out a lot of sugar in my diet. Sugar just hurts my stomach now (it was my sisters bday today and I had cake and ice cream... I wanted to die after I ate it!). I started to diet about two months ago... the first month I lost about 4lbs and kept it off. Since Thanksgiving, I've dropped an additional 6lbs and I'm still losing. Switching to diet soda's and water are a good start, but it takes a lot more than that!

I used to drink nothing but regular soda but after I was told that there are up to 11 packets of sugar in one bottle of soda I switched to Diet.

I started off by filling a cup with ice and pouring a splash of diet pepsi over it, then as I got used to the taste I increased the amount.

I now can't stand to drink regular, It is far too sweet for my tastebuds. :p

It is an acquired taste but you can make the switch if you are faithful to only diet.
