The only two downsides to major weight loss.

Is there any help for this?

 

I lost a large amount of weight last spring, which was fantastic. Before I lost the weight I had remarkably, um, well-rounded and very non-saggy breasts.

 

And now, they look horrible. Both volume and gravity loss.

 

Are there any exercises or non-surgical things I can do to help?

 

It does blow. You get your body so much nicer, and then you lose attractiveness in that important area.

Pushups are a great way to pump your chest full again.

 

It won't firm your boobs. What it will do is increase muscle tissue under your breast fat. This will add to the fullness of your chest.

 

you can do pushups, light bench press. Butterflies. These can all help. Probably 2 to three times a week.

 

Extreme dieting is what makes breasts smaller, as it is primarily fat tissue.

The thing with major weight loss is that if you were significantly overweight, you stretched your skin beyond it's retraction point. So when you lose the weight, you're left with sagging baggy skin that doesn't go away.

 

I'm not sure how large you were, or how much weight you lost, and how long it took you to lose that weight, but I know a few people who have gone through that, and now they have the excess skin and there's no way to get rid of it beyond surgery and doing "tucks."

Sometimes loose skin can still be bodyfat, stubbornly not going away. Difficult to tell. Skin is usually very thin, and fat, if it is still there, would at least be a bit more jelly like. Possible to tell. If you pinch the skin, and have more than a few millimeters of skin, probably some fat.

 

The question though, is: Did you crash diet? I hope not. A quick diet to cut the fat from your body leaves your skin unable to adjust quick enough to keep up. As Katzee has said, you may need a tuck(if your skin is stressed beyond it's ability to shrink eleasticaly back down.

 

If that's the case, exercise would not help. But, exercise and proper diet can help tone you up, if this is not the case. You could try and bulk up some. Then cut the proper way.

 

But, you probably didn't crash diet or you'd said it, right? Anyway. The extra muscle under breast fat should help lift your breasts, giving them a "full" look. Problem with cutting body fat, is that breasts are mostly fat tissue.

More often than not the sagging skin is still a majority of excess fat. Unless the skin hangs thin like paper there is some fat under there.

 

The truth. Skin takes time to retract. You won't know until a good 2-3 years after weightloss whether or not it is permanent sagging. Same goes for skin around the breasts.

 

Crash dieting does not leave you with excess skin permanently. It takes the same amount of time to retract if it is going to retract (genetics plays a part). It is just if you are losing slower it will be less for you to notice. The rate it shrinks is the same.

 

I have a family member that lost 120 pounds at age 25. It was not until she was 27 that her skin had returned to normal. She lost it through water and juice fasting. She followed with clean eating. None of it had returned.

 

If you are fairly young there is a big chance your skin will come back to near normal. Give it time. Many people resort to surgery before waiting for there skin to return. I do think that unless you have lost 100's of pounds then it is worth waiting to see.

 

As to the breast thing- your natural breast size may just be significantly smaller than what you had been used to while overweight. Strength training should help tremendously over time.

The most rapid weight loss occurred this spring, and was not healthfully planned. I lost a friend to horrible circumstances (think newsworthy, literally) and I did make myself eat a couple times a day, but I wasn't eating much because I didn't have an appetite. I lost about 40 some pounds that way. After that, for a few weeks, after I found out about the weight loss after a doctor's appointment, I started deliberately starving myself (I don't think that I am or was actually anorexic) I think for control, but within a few weeks I came to my senses and began to make sure that I ate enough. Even after that, I still continued losing weight slowly, because at this point, I made a conscious effort to eat more healthfully.

 

So, essentially, much of it was crash diet. The rest, however, to get to my BMI healthy weight of between 130-140, will be done through my gym, personal training, and recommended diet, through personal training. :-)

 

Will do the test to see if there is loose skin, but actually I am suspecting that there is still fat, and that perhaps some ligament strengthening will help.

Breasts are mammary gland + fat cells. They always reduce during a weight loss, it's not a question of skin. You can work your pectoral muscles, that will not make them higher but it will fill the upper part of your breasts, making them appear filler.

For the skin (it's an other problem), you can try cold water on your chest after your shower plus re-enforcing body lotions.

About the ligaments : some doctors say it's better not to wear bra at all, others say it's important to wear bra...
