GeorgesIsntAtHome
I have been an avid jogger for over 10 years now and since 2-3 weeks when I ran I have a lot less endurance than normally, I have to push myself to finish the distances I used to do it could be attributed to a lot of things like what I ate, colder weather and etc but something obvious is that I have been trough a rough patch emotionnaly and had a lot of stress related to that, you know the tightness in the guts, high heart beat, generally feeling miserable... I'm slowly recovering now but while I was jogging I tought it would be the best way to get rid of the stress but it seemed to worsen it, like running + stress-related higher heart beat = too much for my body. I used to run 5-6 miles regularly and now after 3 miles I feel exhausted and like I wanna finish ASAP anybody else ever experienced this?
Lauriebell82
I cannot run either when emotionally stressed or upset. It does not help calm me down or make me feel better. I usually have to calm down before going to work out. I either watch tv, go on facebook, talk to someone, ect.

Well thats the thing, usually it works the same with me, but for everyday "I had a rough day at work "kind of stress.. Now I'm dealing with post-breakup crushing stress, apparently it takes a heavier toll on the body, and working out just doesnt get it out of the system.. it feels like I put a double load on the system

If it tells you to shorten your run shorten it I you feel the need to push yourself, push yourself. Personally, nothing beats boxing for me when im stressed - its one of those sports that I you allow it can just take everything you've got till you cant think about anything else
Sunfire73
When you're stressed, you release a lot of the cortisol hormones, which when it's too much takes a toll on your body. The same hormones are released when you run, so you're adding the stress hormones to your body. It's true that after running, you can get the dopamine hormone, that gives you a good 'high' feeling, but if there is too much stress hormones, it won't compensate for it. Try yoga, or swimming or just walking (nature walks). It relaxes you without increasing your stress hormones.
