Period and severe joint pain?

Recommended Posts

When ever I have menstrual cramps I also get severe pain in my elbow and wrist, of my right hand.

I'm a bread baker, so my elbow and wrist do get sore from time to time but never as bad as when I have my period. My cramps are quite severe too.

Do you think these things are linked? A google search brings up a link between menopause and worsening arthritis but at 23 I'm too young for either.

Sounds more like tendonitis, from your occupation. Not sure why it would flare up at that time, but heaven knows we're super sensitive then! Does ibuprofen help?

Thanks guys! I don't have a family doctor but I would like to get it looked at. Most of the month, the pain is occasional and not as bad but during my period it feels like my joints are breaking! I have a family history of arthritis but tendons make sense too with my occupation.

Advil does help but I tend not to keep the stuff around.

Does the pain run from your elbow to your wrist? Or do your elbow and wrist hurt independently?

Is it specifically on the inside or outside of the forearm? You may want to read up on tennis elbow (outside of the arm) or golfer's elbow (inside). Both can be helped with a brace (not too expensive). The Advil really would be of benefit as well (with the cramps too). Good luck!

Also that I am too young to run into work related problems. But I have been baking bread for 5 years and it's actually rather hard on the body.

No one is too young for a repetitive motion injury, or pain related to such motions. Docs at the walk ins are notorious for viewing everyone as a drug seeker.

Why not try the Advil if it doesn't upset your stomach?

DO NOT GOOGLE! That's just bad and the answers you're coming up with are wrong. You're 23 years old, no where close to menopause.

Go see your family Dr and get a full check up.

It's normal to have body aches and pains during your period, especially if you bleed heavily. Take advil and have a heating pad close by. And, while you have PMS, DO excuse, it makes a huge difference. Even if it's a brisk walk around the block or doing some stretching, it'll help.

I get the same, but in my knee during that time. I only feel it during ovulation and menstruation.

I really do think it is connected.
