RINO00
Don't know if this is normal or not. I've just turned 15 a couple weeks ago but still sound a 11-12 year-old boy and right now I'm only 5'4. I don't even shave yet. All I keep feeling is pain on my legs (sometimes more than before). But damn, I've noticing many of my friends at school are already looking as young men while I look and sound like a kid still. None of my family members are short either. Shortest female is 5'6 and male is 5'11. Parents: mother at 5'9 and father at 6'2). I would like to think there is still some hope for me. Isn't my voice suppose to start getting deep by now?? Or I'm I just a late bloomer?
regine_phalange
You will develop, and probably suddenly, dont worry! It may puzzle you, but you are too young still. Some classmates of mine developed at around 18. Thats when they had a beard, masculine body and face (and these specific guys grew to be very handsome, all of them!).
Author RINO00
Yeah I guess it's going take all the way till my graduation or freshman year in college. I can't wait for the changes to occur. Don't want to get stuck at 5'4.
pink_sugar
Some people are later than others and boys are especially later than girls. My dad was 6ft by the time he entered high school. My husband was about your age when he finally sprouted up. He is 5'9". I saw his yearbooks and he looked totally different Sophomore year than Freshman year.
ascendotum
Give it another year and see how you go. Its still too early to say with your age. Yes there are late bloomers, but also you may have a endocrine issue. Trouble is for many doctors just being on the low side in say Test or GH is not a problem. Its only a problem if you are outside the 95% normal range. If in another year you are still waiting for puberty then see your doctor about your concerns. Eat a good quality diet, exercise and get plenty of quality sleep.
JamesM
I never shaved until my senior year in high school. I had a full beard two years later. I was 5' 6" when I graduated. Two years later I was 6' (almost). At your age, I am guessing I was as you are. I looked very young, and thin and was as worried as you. People told me not to worry, but it is hard not to when you live it and you truly don't know what the future will hold. I don't either, but I can tell you that for me, I did get taller and older looking a couple of years later. I can also say that this was true for some older cousins of mine. Now I have sons. NONE of them are late bloomers. Two are taller than me. Another is catching up (at age 13). Go figure. I know it is easy for me to say but seriously, don't panic. You can get into a doctor to be reassured that you are okay, but otherwise, time will change you.
samsungxoxo
I think late growth spurts is a lot more common in guys than girls. We are usually done by the age of 18 or less (if we do grow afterward then it's just either 1 inch or at most 2, not much of a difference) while with the men, if they start suddenly growing during the time, they are compensating for the time lost in their younger years and by the time they're done it's a lot of differences. Since the OP's family are tall and he isn't shaving yet, I would estimate he's going to be somewhere between 5'11-6'2. Guys usually take over the height of a male family member while we go towards one of our female family members. I knew of a guy who was about 4'11 when he was 13 and 5 years later, he was at 5'8 (he passed me by 1 inch). Talk about massive growth. Author RINO00
Yes ascendotum, I do eat well and sometimes do after school activities. I have set up an appointment with the doctor by Friday. I want to make sure as my parents are wondering too. My legs still keep hurting. Though, just noticed an old picture of my paternal grandpa. He is 6'1 but never really saw how he looked like as a kid nor during his early teens till now. He didn't seem anywhere near his height. I guess this can be coming from him. Author RINO00
JamesM wow that's a lot of difference. You grew a lot since your graduation and hopefully that ends up happening to me. I'll be going to the doctor by Friday just to be sure. Yes, you're right many people tell me I'll grow in my time but yes sometimes it is frustrating to me, esp when I'm seeing many of friends mature and develop earlier and I feel behind them. reddragon588
Dude, I'm 25 and I still don't even shave daily. It takes me like 2 weeks to grow facial hair. I also grew to my current height (5'10") when I was in 8th grade and haven't grown an inch since then. Everyone develops differently, just be patient. You'll grow and you'll have to shave eventually. And honestly, be happy you don't have to shave. It sucks.

Or I'm I just a late bloomer? I once read the first-hand account of a woman who didn't get her first period until after her sixteenth birthday, and hand in hand with that was lots of angst and sadness. Indeed it was rare to think about such a case, but it assures that there are many individual patterns out there, and it is most likely that yours is another, similar case. Perhaps one even within the far-reaching bounds of normalcy.
PogoStick
You'll look like a kid for another 15 years so might as well accept it. And your schoolmates don't look like men yet either, trust me. But if you think you aren't developing then get into a Dr asap, there are hormones you can be given if there is a true problem. Author RINO00
So here is the update. The doctor had me measured at 5'5 1/2 (I wasn't aware of that) and what I have is delayed puberty. Right now my body is growing as if I were a couple years ago younger than my current age. This explains the pains I'm having on my legs and why my voice hasn't change yet. At least my plates are wide open. But his answer kind of surprise me when he said my full adult height would be more likely 2-3 years after my HS graduation ending anywhere between 5'10-6'2. Hopefully he's right. I hope so. I would like to see the changes already but guess I have to be patience and let my body develop on its own pace.

I let it, and miss out on my entire high school experience.

Gymnasts tend to do things that delay puberty on purpose, so as to allow them the freedom of movement which comes easier to pixie-like frames, so consider that various unique factors can and do affect the 'scheduling' of such evolution. Maybe look at "Nadia Comaneci" (then and now) for a significant example. Hopefully the time will pass quickly, and without too much cause for concern.
bubbaganoosh
When I was a teenager, I hung out with a goof friend of mine. He had a older brother who was around 5 feet 8 inches tall and maybe 145 pounds. He went in to the Marine Corp and I didn't see him for three years. One day I was over my buddies house and his brother had come home and when I saw him, I honestly didn't know who he was. He was around 6 feet and 200 pounds and by no means fat. Now I'm not saying that the same thing will happen to you but let's face it. You still are a kid. 15 is a kid and you have a bunch of growing to do and no doubt it will come in spurts. Don't worry kid. Be happy.
radiodarcy
I feel your frustration. I'm a 37 year old female and I am just under 5 feet. And I'm told that in addition to my height I do look young for my age. In high school and college - - I would be offered the kiddie menu in restaurants - - and no it was not as a joke. The hostess honestly thought I was under 12 :/ I just laughed it off. I mean - - there was not point in my getting upset over something that I can't control. Not only that, on the rare occasion that I order alcohol or go to bar or club, it's amusing to see the looks on the faces of the bartender/bouncer when they look at my ID and see I am well over the required age limit
Ap22
I was like you. I had/have a baby face and hated it when I was younger. In my 20s, it was embarrassing being on a date and getting carded for an R rated movie. Everyone always told me I would appreciate it when I was older...... Boy were they right! I'm 39 now and could pass for late 20s still. I look at people I went to high school with and they look so much older than me. When you are young you cant wait to be older and when you are older you wish you were young again.
Els
Late growth spurts are normal in boys. That being said, make sure that you get sufficient nutrition (eat well, start learning about nutrition and food types) and be active in sports. One of the biggest regrets I have from my teen years is not eating properly and taking junk food in lieu of meals. The ill effects from poor eating habits now may affect you for the rest of your life. I swear I might have been taller if I hadn't done that ****.
