Personality disorders and pets getting sick or dying?

Looking back on my 5 year marriage to BPD ex wife, I probably can count 6 or 7 different pets (cats and dogs) who had freak accidents or developed bizarre medical conditions, all of which died prematurely. At the time I just thought it was unfortunate and merely coincidental. I didn't get suspicious because my ex wife would act devastated and turn on the water works. But looking back, after realizing the depth of her calculating and disordered ways, I am suspicious that she was somehow involved in their deaths. I can't explain the mechanism or psychological motivation, but I was hoping to get some insight from others here. Possibly some kind of Munchausen by Proxy with animals or maybe just not wanting them after the cute kitty phase? Or perhaps just nothing more than carelessness and inability to keep them alive?

Granted, I am AvPD and not BPD, but I would tend to suspect that sociopathy or psychopathy would have to be involved.

 

I tend to be highly attuned to animals. I absolutely love them and they love me. I tend to have a much better rapport with animals than with many people.

 

Please, though, even if people more familiar with BPD say that it would be consistent, don't lump all personality disorders into a dangerous with animals category. Many of us are much better with animals than we are with people.

I have no idea why you're trying to link borderline with the death of the animals.

I seriously doubt borderline being linked to this.

 

I think you should read some articles about the mind of a borderline.

A neutral one, not another exBPD story.

 

Borderlines aren't cold blooded animal murderers..

Oh, no, please don't do this... I've lost pets over the past few years, due to old age, and the cats were not only old, but had a virus run through them. It's devastating to lose them in the first place - why would you think she wasn't genuinely upset? Why would you think she would hurt them? I lost Rita to a heart attack, Emily to cancer, Bertie to his heart giving out.

I have BPD. Unless she displayed uncontrollable violent tendencies, or had another severe psychological issue, I don't see BPD making someone a serial pet killer. If she is, then further diagnosis is probably in order.

 

I've always liked animals and animals seem to like me. I'm usually the guy that comes over and the pet owners are like "Wow, he/she never lets strangers pet him/her".

She was violent, at least to me. But she did at least appear to love animals. I had just never seen so many cats and dogs die in such strange, anamolous ways in such a short period. Oh well. I'm probably wrong on this one.

I could see someone like that losing control and doing something in a fit, but prolonged medical conditions? That would take some cold calculated evil.

 

I've done my fair share of crying and I cannot fake it. I don't know if she can but being as emotional as you say when pets pass, I'm guessing it's genuine.

 

But maybe I'm a softie.
