Dying or Cutting Your Own Hair

Recommended Posts

Who here dyes or cuts their own hair as opposed to getting it done at the salon? What is the best way to dye your own hair or cut it?

I tried dying my hair once but ruined the bathroom and cutting my hair I'm afraid to do it by myself because I don't wanna chop it all off hahaha.

I have been dyeing my own hair for twenty years.

Wear a robe that you don't mind destroying and put a towel on the ground that becomes your "dye" towel because you will get splatters (until you get more practice). Ironically, I am dyeing mine today for my second wedding, next weekend.

I would never cut my own hair because you can't get the scissors at the correct angle around the back of your own head.

You can put Vaseline around your hair lins on your face to keep it from getting dyed. I looked up online what takes dye off skin and found baking soda toothpaste to.work best. Although I just leave my hair natural now in my day ive been a lot of different colors.,The only color hard to do by mysrlf was blonde because,of the bleaching involved. I always wore a certain shirt and pants ehen dying my hair and had two rags handy, both with water and a lil soap, one to get my ears and neck after i was done dying and one for any splatter that may happen in the bathroom.

I agree with yhe above poster that cutting your own hair equals trouble. Ive seen the handiwork of r who did it themselves and I was not impressed lol. Ive never heard of a woman attempting it but I'm sure there's a YouTube video about it that will give you a good laugh.

Any friends Of yours willing to.help dye it? Thats always the easiest route.

You can easily dye your own hair. Follow the directions on the box or get a friend to help you. It's not hard. Do not wear a shirt that you have to pull over your head to get off. I have an old shirt that is my hair shirt because it does get dye on it.

Don't cut your own hair. . . maybe your bangs but not the rest. If you need a discount, try a local beauty school. My hair is all one length; I actually get it cut by barbers as opposed to in a salon because I pay $10-$20 vs. $50 - $60. The barbers tend to cut straighter & it takes less time.

I cut my own hair. I only got to this point after years of not being happy after leaving the salon.

Don't just go ahead and do it. I had a professional stylist teach me the rules, I got about 15 lessons from him, and there are only certain styles that can be pulled off doing it on yourself.

If you did a lot of research, and perhaps looked at videos of lessons from professionals you could give it ago, just made sure you understand it well first.

As for dye, I would use henna and indigo mixed the make the shade I want (you can get from bright red to black, and anything in between), it is completely natural, causes no harm to hair. But yes it is messy, and time consuming, and just plain annoying.

napy,

Please do not attempt to cut your own hair.

I can almost assure you it will result in an epic fail...unless of course you've had fifteen lessons from a stylist as the poster above mentioned.

I get my hair colored professionally now (one shade lighter) but back in the day, I would always wear my special 'hair dying outfit'. I would have lots of dampened paper towels on hand to clean up the excess.

Also, be aware that home hair coloring kits have their limitations...you may not achieve the look you are seeking.

It all depends on your natural starting point. Are you thinking of going lighter or darker?...and what is your current hair color?

I dye my own hair, but use the professional stuff, not the stuff that comes in boxes at the supermarket. If my hair were straight, I would cut it myself too.
