napy666
All my boyfriends have lived about 45 minutes driving, 1-2 riding the train and buses or 1 hour away driving from me. But other people have said thats not long distance, long distance is 2 people in 2 different states or countries etc. So what would you consider a long distance relationship? CherryT
I would consider a relationship where you can't easily see someone when you want, due to distance, as long distance. For example, when my LD fiancé and I close the distance in the next few months… there will be days where his commute may be an hour to come home because he works in a few different offices. We would still see each other every day so it wouldn't be LD. If you could see each other most days, then I wouldn't say it's long distance.
sun1972
My LDR was small compared to others, 4 hours each way i wouldnt class an hour as ldr..you can easily see each other daily there. That to me is an ldr, where seeing each other daily is not an option

It was so hard at first. I'm just so lucky that we're understanding and patient enough to keep on going and it helps that we keep busy too. We keep in constant touch too. He's working on moving here, he just has to get his VISA approved. We're seeing each other again in about a month for about two weeks so I'm excited!
d0nnivain
To me an LDR is more than an 8 hour drive or a situation where somebody needs to get on a plane to see the other person. A long drive, < 2 hours, is merely an inconvenience.
HeavenOrHell
I wouldn't consider a r/ship LD if you can easily see each other, ie can travel there and back in one day without it taking hours. Long distance for me means you can't easily see them whenever you choose because the distance is too great as well as the cost of travel being expensive. Also in most LDR's you can't meet every weekend because it's too far, so you have to plan for longer w/ends which means getting time off work which isn't always possible, so there's just no way you can see them every week or even every month in many cases, also with most LDR's the distance is so great that it takes several hours traveling which means just going for a night or two isn't really feasible, so you can't meet as frequently as you'd like. I don't see an hour by train or car as LD, people work or go shopping an hour away, it's no distance, not saying you could see them every day if they're an hour away, but you can meet frequently, it's not like the heartbreak of not seeing your partner for weeks or months on end, doesn't compare IMO. HeavenOrHell
Or a train Takes me 10-11 hours to get to my partner in another country. Be quicker if I would get on a plane, but I can't (phobic), takes him 4-5 hours from his door to mine, but we can't even do that monthly as he can't get time off work that often, and it's not worth doing for just a day and night here, well it would be worth it to me, but he'd be the one doing all the traveling 2 days running. To me an LDR is more than an 8 hour drive or a situation where somebody needs to get on a plane to see the other person. A long drive, < 2 hours, is merely an inconvenience. Everything's relative though, isn't it Well i would have been happy with 2-3 days a week, they are FAB days but her mindset is it isn't a real relationship unless living together.... We didn't miss a single weekend for 3 years believe it or not. anyway im astonished at some of the distances people have... mine is 4 hours each way and i considered that LDR
HeavenOrHell
Yes, it's not exactly black and white determining what makes it a LDR, so many variables. You had quite a lot of traveling to do to meet up that often. I'm going to reply to your message in the other thread soon as I can too. Just wondering if your partner might think 2-3 days a week together is amazing if she was only used to seeing you less than once a month/every few weeks! But fair enough if she wants to live with you then nothing less will do. Havent seen him for more than 9 months now Oh my goodness! That's a long time without seeing someone.. I haven't gone that long yet. How did you manage to cope? I was so sad at first when we weren't together anymore but then I got busy, so I guess it's good to stay independent! Where are you guys meeting? I'm excited for you
Author napy666
Wow that is a distance but I always thought my distance was quite a ways at least my mom always made that so hahahaha.
Carenth
My girlfriend and I were around 9000 miles apart. The longest we didn't see each other was 8 months which sucked a lot. It was very hard to plan trips because they would require them to be at least 2 weeks to be worthwhile and getting time off at the same time was hard. We are living together now, she is about 5 meters away from me while I type this.
