a conundrum

5 months ago my gf dumped me shortly before i left for the military. i ended up being discharged and sent home and she was seeing someone else by that time. before i left she gave me that lets be friends line a lot of dumpers like to give, and she still wants to. we've talked it out and i am ok with it, though i don't like her new guy; i've met him before we broke up and i didnt like him then, still dont, he was a total twat. i stopped wanting to be with her after she told me she doesnt want kids, so i started looking elsewhere. found an amazing woman whom i hit off amazingly well with; she blows my ex out of the water.

here's the problem, my ex suggested we do a double date so we can all meet and all be ol' chaps together. my girl is fine with it, i laid out everything with her regarding my ex and she says she is fine with it, not only that but she thinks its incredibly mature of me. but is it really appropriate? two exes and their new prospects doing something like dinner together? i already know i want this girl to be my gf, but i think my ex could do better. im worried its going to be wierd. would anyone else do this?

I personally wouldn't. If you look at this in another way, it seems like your ex wants to see if the woman you found is better than her or not. Then she might try to get back with you which you completely do not want because she might hurt this new woman in some way.

I'd just stay away from this sticky situation and focus on the new girl completely instead. The ex is nothing to you anymore so no point in thinking about it.

I suppose in a perfect world if you all double dated, in a side by side comparison your EX could see her new guy's faults. However, as much as you don't like the guy, she could still view him as perfect for her.

I'd make it a short double or at least go to the movies to cut down on the interactions.
