How do you self-validate?

Recommended Posts

Nikki Sahagin

There have been a lot of threads recently about seeking validation from others. I was thinking we should pool together the ways in which we try to self-validate.

Here are things I do:

* Yoga - Yoga is a very powerful way for me of validating my body, emotions, mind and sense of self. The focus on breathing, moving the body and working through the emotions/thoughts that we store in the physical body is a great way to improve confidence.

* Meditation - It helps me realise I can quiet my own mind.

* Free flow movement to music - Move how you want to to music. This is one of my favourites

* Doing something alone - Seeing a film, eating at a restaurant, it's great doing these things alone rather than not at all

Do something you are good at and be proud of yourself for it. I self-validate by excelling in what I do. And doing nice things for other people not only makes me feel good (for them) but makes me feel good about myself.

How do you self-validate?

By achieving my goals. Whatever those goals are, some ambitious, others less so. Gaining new skills and experiences. All these things make me feel capable and resourceful.

Top to Bottom Ways

1. Cognitively: Through positive thinking and affirmations. conscious

awareness. The conscious mind has the power to accept or reject suggestions from the senses and the external environment. The mind affects the body by release of neurochemicals and hormones.

2. Behaviorally: By continue to improve skills and areas of in life where positive change is wanted and getting out of the comfort zone.

3. Body Awareness: As you become more aware of the mind/body/spirit connections, you realize that emotions create sensations in the body. As you shift your focus to your body's sensations and still the mind, you find that these emotions are temporarily irritations that pass as the relief of tensions and anxieties fade and dissipate in the body. Mediation, yoga and being present in the moment are good ways as is changing body posture such as lifting your head, larger body movements, and smiling all have ways in which the body can change the mind.
