timber
I have recently read about the law of attraction (that your thoughts create your reality) and that if you know how to utilize it correctly you can manifest your desires. It basically says that what we focus our attention on (whether we want it or not) eventually materializes. Anyone have any thoughts or know anything else about it? Has is worked for anyone? There are a ton of books on this subject and I am just curious if and how it works.
Curt Posted December 31, 2004 Moderators Share Posted December 31, 2004 That idea, to be honest, is silly. To put it simple: I may hypothetically think hard that, I would be able to make myself (and so many others) happy iffffff only I won the $25 million jackpot. I don't care HOW much attention or thought I want to expend... That won't likely ever happen...and even if it does, it won't be because I thought it into reality. C'est la vie. moimeme
Yeah, well I've talked to one of the 'law of attraction' authors and the theory includes bad things. Essentially, whatever happens to you, according to this theory, happens because you 'attract' it through thoughts possibly even unknown to you. I asked how a child could attract abuse or a nation could attract an earthquake. He muttered some mumbo-jumbo about how there are some sort of mysterious waves or lines of energy and that people in countries struck by tragedies are in the wrong waves or something. Pah. However, if you take a positive outlook and think positively, you often fare better than people who are generally negative. That's a much better theory to put your faith in, IMHO. Author timber
I do agree. I definatley have my skepticism when it comes to imagining millions of dollars and all that kind of stuff. Essentially, I think it comes down to having the confidence within yourself that you are worthy enough to have something you really want happen to you. I do believe if you want something badly enough and you are optimistic about getting it....eventually it will be yours. From my own personal experience, I would have negative thoughts about someone or something that I really had no reason to feel that way at the time but eventually those negative thoughts came true! Maybe I just had an intuitive gut feeling that steered me in the right direction before it got to bad...I don't know....but sometimes I think...thinking too much has caused me negativity also. strange love
What you are talking about is visualization. Yes I have had it work. But alot has to do with postive attitude. But this doesnt stop bad things from happening, such is cycle of life. Where you hoping for examples? strangelove
Author timber
yes. any examples that have worked?
Puma
i have read books on this theory and those alike also and i have to say its very interesting. i believe that its meant for one to be positive on all outlook of life and a particular situation, the foundation is taht positive thoughts, confidence, and even prayer or meditation help put urmind in a state where it can visualize it is what u want and therfore act accordingly to eventually become a reality. as for examples: after readin some books i kinda tried doin what they said and it actually works. i went to small things to larger situations. i know this might sound silly but i found alot more green lights onmy way home haha cause i used the methods. also, the greatest feat so far has been that my parents were not gettin along at all..couldnt even talk to each other and i would just visualize them gettin along, and i prayed of course which is important..and i can tell u know that they are great..they hang out, go out more, and the tension that affected me b4 is not there anymore im usin these same methods in everyday life and also for of course visuallizing me with my ex sometime in the future..i think in order to do so it has to be constant though. imsure u have heard of athletes usin same methods. why is it that world records always get broken?? because they see themselves breakin them therefore their mind subconciously allows them to. it all comes down to the power of the mind and the potential we each have and dont unleash. i would like to know if anyone has other examples as well as i think its interesting. i have examples of others im hopin i well have more of mine to share
XNemesisX
I do think there could be some truth in that. Never underestimate the power of the mind. I have focused a lot of energy on bad things to happen. Ok so I'm not saying for sure that this is not all in my imagination or whatever so please don't think I'm psycho or I think I caused these things to happen but this IS pretty weird.. When I was in high school I got duped over by this particular person in a VERY terrible and horrendous way. I started focusing and concentrating really hard and kept wishing him to wreck his new 'vette. (evil I know). Well guess what? That very evening I get a call from my best friend at the time saying " ___ was just pulled out of his vette, he went off the side of the road and his car went out of control and rolled over on him. He barely survived." This was even on the front page of the newspaper "Driver escapes serious energy" Yeah it freaked me out for a while. He was okay..his car wasn't though. SO my then 17 year old self got mad at this other person and did the same technique to see if it would work again. The next day he wrecked. Didn't get hurt, but got shook up and also totaled his car. Third time about 2 years later I tried this again. This was with my then boyfriend who I got mad at. He wrecked that night. I am not lying about any of this. I guess it could be coincidence. But it sure is weird. After the third time I got kind of scared and didn't attempt that negative wishing anymore. I'm not sure if any of what I wrote above is related to what you're talking about. I have tried the positive thing and wishing really hard for some particular good things to happen (not anything too unreasonable like winning the lottery haha) and it never worked. : ( I do think there is some truth in "be careful what you wish for" I'm a very skeptical person, so I'm still not sure the "power of my mind" made those people wreck.(no one was injured at all btw thankfully) Gosh I was a mean little teenager! Sure is some coincidences though.... or NOT
KaiaMahina
to people telling you it DOESN'T work. I did it all the time when I was a child and didn't know that it wasn't supposed to work. Of course, once "sensible adults" started in on me, I didn't have a chance in hell. Once I began to behave in a "practical" way and "faced reality" everything in my life went balls up and is only now turning around since I've gone back to my old ways! Read "Ask and It Is Given" by Esther and Jerry Hicks and never mind the fact that it was supposedly "channeled." Yeah, that kinda thing is a complete turnoff to me, but you can't judge a book by its cover. You judge whether it delivers the goods. This one is very clear and concise, gives you reasons why your attraction process is bringing you what you don't want, and also gives you exercises to change your emotional and thought patterns which keep bringing you what you don't want. Of course money doesn't fall out of the sky, and of course your dream lover doesn't appear in your bedroom. That's obvious. People who scoff at this and use these kinds of examples as "proof" that it doesn't work aren't getting the entire picture. But this stuff does work, if you practice it consistently and believe me, DON'T TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE about any of it. Whatever you're working on, and whatever you're attempting to attract, don't talk about it. You may notice that whenever you talk to most other people about anything you're attempting to do, the first thing out of their mouth is WHY IT WON'T WORK. "I'm sick of my job! I'm going to find something better," you say. They say, "You better sit tight! The economy is bad and there are no jobs out there. Just be glad you have a job! My friend Joe Blow left his job, and now he lives in a refrigerator box on the corner of Elm and Maple!" "I've had it with my husband/wife and his/her abusive behavior! I'm going to get a divorce and seek happiness with someone else," you say. They say, "It's a jungle out there! At your age/height/weight/intelligence level/whatever, it's going to be hard to find someone else. My sister Emma Lou left her husband and now she's a crack whore!" "I don't like this city. I'm going to move to a new state/city/country and start a new life," you say. They say, "You'd better not! There are no jobs where you want to go, and the crime rate is incredible, and the people are all hatchet murderers! You'd better just stay right where you are. My cousin Jimmy John moved to that place and fell through a hole into the fourth dimension!" See what I mean? They'll influence you in a negative way and then you're done for. Keep it to yourself and try it. It doesn't work overnight, and it doesn't work precisely the first couple of times because it's like anything else: practice makes perfect. Start off with something small and see what happens. Besides, what have you got to lose?
moimeme
Well, it's one thing to persist in following reasonable dreams in the face of negative reaction and quite another to have millions materialize out of the blue. The former is just about being a strong human.
lost_in_chgo
I actually fell into the fourth dimension once. The horseradish there was purple and it tasted like blueberries.
