looking4_hope
I have pcos and I am having the hardest time losing weight. I am currently taking metformin, I exercise and try to keep healthy food choices. I have heard starch is My biggest enemy since I have pcos. The starches aren't broken down properly and rather stored. I eat oatmeal In AM and have my "heavy" meal in the afternoon and eat veggies and protein at night. Can anyone give me detailed tips/advice on how to lose weight with pcos? I'm so tired of taking meds and want to he off of them ASAP! Those with pcos-- how did you beat it? What changes did you make that helped u lose weight? Thank you!
Mr Scorpio
You'll probably get more advice if you don't force people to look up "pcos" on their own.
Author looking4_hope
You'll probably get more advice if you don't force people to look up "pcos" on their own. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a condition in which a woman has an imbalance of a female sex hormones. This may lead to menstrual cycle changes, cysts in the ovaries, trouble getting pregnant, and other health changes. Having polycystic ovary syndrome makes the following conditions more likely, especially if obesity also is a factor: Type 2 diabetes High blood pressure Cholesterol and lipid abnormalities, such as elevated triglycerides or low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, the "good" cholesterol Elevated levels of C-reactive protein, a cardiovascular disease marker Metabolic syndrome, a cluster of signs and symptoms that indicate a significantly increased risk of cardiovascular disease Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, a severe liver inflammation caused by fat accumulation in the liver Sleep apnea Abnormal uterine bleeding Cancer of the uterine lining (endometrial cancer), caused by exposure to continuous high levels of estrogen Gestational diabetes or pregnancy-induced high blood pressure, if you do become pregnant PCOS also causes insulin resistance. soph12
People who are familiar and/or struggle with pcos themselves will probably be the most helpful. I think this was her train of thought. l4h, are you on birth control? I think I have pcos too, but the gyno told me BC, which I've been on for years, is a natural treatment. I wish I could help you more, but the only time I've lost a significant amount of weight as an adult was when I was too stressed to eat
elbe
Not to diminish your diagnosis at all - but it sounds like you are using it as a crutch. It is hard for anyone to lose weight, especially if you are significantly overweight to start with. The only thing that actually works is hours of exercise and eating more protein than carbohydrates. Keep a close watch on calories regardless of what you eat. You want a caloric deficit daily and maintain that in order to lose weight. Losing weight is like watching grass grow so it's the long game you want to set goals for.
FitChick
Treat it naturally. This page has many angles of attack. I recall Jillian Michaels treating a Biggest Loser contestant with bioidentical ProGest cream which you can get at a health food store. You have a hormone imbalance. So doing as many of the listed items onthis woman's blog on this page should sort you out quickly.
