Sometimes I feel like I'm glued to my bed

I don't always get like this. But sometimes, I get just into hermit mode and I just stay in my room for days. I'd keep busy with reading, study, painting, or watch Netflix on the computer. I don't even have a job but I still get support money which is basically like free money and doesn't make me feel like I'm actually earning anything on my own :( i honestly feel like a failure for this reason.

 

I just don't know why I don't feel the motivation like a go-getter like some people… How are they so disciplined and motivated to do that?

You need passion. There is nothing wrong with being supported. Your lucky that you have a platform to become anything you want. Many would kill for such an opportunity. Try and motivate yourself by being gratefull for who you are and the life you have.

 

It is up to you to form your life.

Some of it comes down to necessity. If people don't work then they won't eat or have a roof over their head. Beyond necessity, some people are raised to be disciplined and driven. Others are motivated by a goal which requires them to be disciplined and driven. Finally, some folks are content to get-by. So long as they have food, shelter, and some form of entertainment/release, they maintain the status-quo for life. I'm not sure there is anything wrong with that.

I've suffered on and off with depression and anxiety my whole life. I find that having responsibilities helps me navigate me through the tough times. I can't stay in bed because I have a dog to look after- I can't call in sick to work because there are people counting on me. It doesn't matter how down I am, I always drag my butt out of bed and go to work.

 

There is a lot of self value to be derived from working. You need something to latch onto that will drive you out of your bed every day.

I got laid off like 2 months ago. I've been sleeping literally 12-14 hours a day since. I don't know what the hell this is about. I don't have a reason to get up so I don't. But still, seems like a ridiculous amount of sleeping.

My problem is getting started. Like if I dont have a real reason like morning classes or going to the office. I would more than likely just sleep in, not do anything, and like around past 1 pm I might consider doing something but tell myself I should have done it earlier.

 

So thats my advice, maybe commit to something that will force you to get up. Once you get started, the rest of the day will seem easier. I thinks.

I feel the same way sometimes and I have motivation. I have 3 kids to care for and a third shift job. But I find myself wanting to do nothing but sleep. That's the activity I look forward to, lack of motivation. But I force myself everyday to get up
