Laura127
Where do you start on figuring these things out? I feel like I've been so unhappy for years (23 right now). After an exhaustive year of desperately searching for a man I want to focus on myself but don't know where to start... I've been depressed so long that I never really had things that made me truly happy or passionate. I feel like my life is resetting at zero and don't know where to begin. I don't want to be this desperate mess. I just want to be content with myself.
Mario79
You must have an idea of what makes you happy by now, or at least what doesnt make you happy. There lots of personality tests online that give you a general idea of where your interests lie. You can also check with a psychologist they can apply tests that can tell you something about that. Other things is that you may not have experienced it yet, and at that age you may want to find out, cause these things change as you get older as well.
d0nnivain
You focus on the little things: did a sunset make you smile? can you appreciate the beauty of new fallen snow or a nicely decorated Christmas tree. When you see something good you need to stop & reflect on it for 10 - 20 seconds (yup, that's all a few measly seconds). Experience it with all your senses: What else do you hear? What do you smell? What do you feel? It's kind of like a situational meditation -- be in the moment & focus. Doing that will burn those few seconds of joy into your system which has been deprived of happiness for so long. It will help you recognize it when it comes around again. One study suggests that it takes 4-5 of these happy feelings to overcome 1 negative experience.
