Eternal Sunshine Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I was thinking of getting those bra type tops that show off my abs haha. Is that too douche-y?
ascendotum Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 "douche-y" - no way. I guess it depends on who's perspective though. If you got abs, then show off the results of your hard work. The guy's in the gym wont roll their eyes when they see you working out in like a sports bra top that's for sure. You might encounter some dagger looks from some of the other women that can't get a lean belly. To me it does not really matter what people wear at the gym if it makes it easier to train. I don't think skimpy gear makes them come off looking like a wanker/poser. Maybe some guys in spandex though, but women cant go wrong on the skimpy tight 'Lorna Jane' gear look. Congrats if you got abs. Its a really hot look imo.
Author Eternal Sunshine Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 I am very excited. I got visible abs for the first time in my life
xxoo Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I don't go to the gym, but I wear jog bra-type tops when I run in the hot weather. Flaunt it if you've got it (and even if you don't, haha)
HokeyReligions Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Sweats - aka "gym clothes" I don't pay attention to what others wear, I'm just interested in my own comfort when working out. I'm curious - are (collective) you inspired to do better or influenced negatively by what others around you wear?
Ruby Slippers Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Go for it, but I think you might get tired of the leering. I get tired of men at the gym staring laser beams at my boobs and crotch when I'm just wearing a tank and yoga pants.
thefooloftheyear Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) I was thinking of getting those bra type tops that show off my abs haha. Is that too douche-y? I dunno...I just wear loose fitting sweats... By anyone's standards I have a phenomenal physique and am one of the most dedicated members of my gym...I blow away guys half my age in terms of strength, size and symmetry, yet no one has ever seen what I really look like as I am always covered up..Ive never trained to be noticed by anyone, I do it to look and feel good for myself..If I did I would be walking around in cut off wife beaters wherever I go...at least I can pull it off. What has always amazed me is that the guys who have embarrassing bodies are the ones showing the most skin..All of the guys with serious bodies always stay covered up. At least around here, anyway.. If you feel you need the attention, go for it..I am sure you will get the desired results you are looking for...Im not knocking anyone, least not you, but its just one guys perspective, thats all.. Kudos on your progress.. TFY Edited December 12, 2013 by thefooloftheyear
Emilia Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 You should show off the abs ES! I wear two sports bras to strap those bad boys down, a vest and a baggy tracksuit bottom. I still get stared at 2
sanusense Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Just because you’re trying to lose weight doesn't mean you should lose your fashion sense and it’s important to feel good when you start a new class. It can be daunting enough to step into a gym or fitness studio for the first time. Well I prefer to wear track pants full, but when it comes to do abs exercise only then i wear half pants.
radiodarcy Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 wear what you want. i just wear smelly baggy men's clothes and sweats. they're cheaper and i'd rather spend more money on something i'm going to wear all day as opposed to sweat in for an hour and then have to toss in the washing machine right after the work out.
jimloveslips Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I was thinking of getting those bra type tops that show off my abs I guess it depends (oops) on what you are trying to do, attract attention or work out. I wear what makes me comfortable - I pay absolutely no attention to anyone else, I prefer to think of myself as entirely alone without judgement from anyone… But that's just my hang-up! 1
Sunshinegrl Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 If I'm training my upper body, I wear a tank top so I can see my muscles work in the mirror. It helps me with form and motivation. I'd never wear a t-shirt to work shoulders. I like to SEE that pump in the mirror. If I'm going to squat, I will wear bicycle shorts that hug my legs, so I can see the pump in them when I'm done. And I certainly don't want to wear loose shorts on leg day where everyone can see up them when I'm leg pressing.
mario_C Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 I would wear pretty crappy workout clothes to the gym - the idea was to motivate myself, showing off what a fatass I was (am?) while actively doing something about it, or so I thought. They needed to be comfortable to move around in, and OK to sweat through.
Esoteric Elf Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Nothing special. Just a loud shirt (something that screams powerlifting, Bioshock, United States Air Force, etc.) and sweatpants.
Jmk21 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 My gym clothes consist of Cutoff shirt Ratty 3 year old Osiris high tops Rotate between black/ blue/ gray shorts And sweatpants and a tshirt on leg day My ex bought me a 5 long sleeve underarmor shirts but I'll rarely wear them anymore. I used to wear em all the time though.
regine_phalange Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 If I'm at the gym, just a random comfy tshirt (star wars, johnny walker, wwf, this kind of stuff ) with yoga capri. I wouldnt look at you with the killer's eye though! At least as long as you dont hit on me while I'm sweating.
MrNate 2.0 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I have to wear tighty whiteys when I run, otherwise my junk bounces all over the place..and I keep getting pervy looks from women. 1
FitChick Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Perfect example of why I am glad I don't go to a gym. I don't want to have to wonder what I should wear. I work out at home -- naked. No laundry to do after!

flowingmane Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Depends on what I'm going there to do, and what I grab out of the drawer. Most time a tshirt and spandex capris. I don't go there to impress anyone, I am there to escape stress and take care of my health. It's about me, not a social event. Wear what makes you comfortable, or suits your reason for going there. If the sports bra gives you support and you're not constantly adjusting it or changing your form to accommodate it, then go for it. The only things I think are stupid are the t shirts on men that have been completely split open down the sides (stinky pits anyone?). Would it kill them to just wear something other than a rag?
pteromom Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Hey, if you are proud of your abs, show them off! I would recommend though that if you are going to wear just a sports bra, that you choose a bottom that is less "sexy" so you aren't giving off the wrong vibe. Like maybe some loose fitting yoga pants or sweats, or loose running shorts. If you show up in a sports bra and tight shorts/pants, you are going to look like you are just trying to get attention.
FitChick Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Def just got a mental picture of you completely naked with some Nikes on. Not a bad visual. I don't even wear shoes... 1
Eau Claire Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Sports bra to keep the girls under control. Usually a tank top but sometimes a t-shirt. Pink or mauve gym sneakers. Usually put my hair in pony tail unless with my boyfriend. He has a nice body but dresses like he's still in Phys Ed class in the 70's. Having said this, at the gym 2 or 3 times a week just to firm up. No aerobics. Not perspiring. When I go for a run, wear a track suit, cap and pony tail.
Elias33 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Work out at home. Run out doors. So shorts it is. Wintertime, some track pants, a hoody and gloves/hat. Never have an excuse not to work out
