Tattoos... Yes? No?

Ok, thanks to this forum, I feel a lot better now after a pretty bad divorce situation.

I am done thinking about it, done trying crazy things with randoms and finally can just be.

Not 100% sure what I want in life, but I figure that will become clear eventually. What I do know, and have proved several times over is that it wasn't me being inadequate as a man that was the problem in my divorce. I'm wanted by plenty of other women and that's good for the post divorce ego.

Now, I have always been against getting tattoos. I have resisted them my whole life because I didn't want to get them and be another conformist trying to pretend they are different, when really, they are just copying other people.. I'm also not about image.

But... several girls I've been seeing have told me I'd be irresistible if i got tatted up. An overwhelming number of suggestions. I asked on facebook and everyone said yes.

Backing up a minute, I have a bartender friend who has some cool looking tattoos and his are what got me thinking about it. I'm thinking about 2 sleeves and a neck tattoo.

What is everyone's opinion on this? I can't find anyone to say no on my Facebook. They only say I'd look hot or they'd want to jump me. lol So do I go for this irreversible change?

Do temporary ones for a week to see how other people react?

Really leaning toward this.

Are there any ramifications I am not considering that should be taken into account?

Mistake #1....

NEVER do anything(especially something that is irreversible) because some woman said you should do it...

I have some, but never considered what someone might think or how it might affect someone else's opinion...If you want it, then do it...end of story..

NO! just NO.

Think about it, would you really want to be with someone so shallow who likes you only because you have tats? Getting tattoos will not solve your problems-learning to love yourself without need of trendy embellishments will take you much further along in this process.

Ramifications? plenty, because they will stick to you for the rest of your life, unless you decide to go through the painful process of having them removed someday.

You don't say your age, but I'm guessing pretty young. The kind of work you decide to go into might not even let you in the door with a lot of ink showing. The tattoos will be the first (and last) thing people will sum up about you, talk about making a lasting impression. Also, with age, they begin to distort as the skin loosens

Please think this through more carefully. Just because your 'friends' on FB say yes, doesn't mean squat because they are not the ones who will have to live with it.

good luck

Do you want tattoos?

Sleeves and a neck tattoo are kind of extreme for someone previously opposed to getting any tattoos. Midlife crisis?

I prefer natural men who love minimality on their style. Also, I rarely like tattoos. I mean, I usually see mediocre designs, that's why. I would never trust my skin on someone to stain it. He would have to be a very awesome artist. My ex had 4 large tattoos but I didnt really care for them.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^

I have a couple of tattoos, but I never cared what other people thought about it ...... I got them for ME.

Arm sleeves and a neck tattoo are the most visible forms of ink you could have. It's saying you definitely want them on public display at all times. That doesn't even take into account the actual taste and proficiency of the work.

It's permanent and not something to take lightly. Tattoo cover ups and laser removal are a booming business because many people regret the decision later on. You will not easily cover up or remove the tattoos you describe here.

Just make sure it's something you are happy with knowing it's forever.

Hmmm... My post was a little misleading. The male friend who has them is what got me wanting them. They look good.

Talking about them in general with people is where I keep getting told they would be great on me... not the other way around.

Does that make a difference?

I chose to never work in an office again 8 years ago. I have way more financial security than I need. I won't be going hat in hand to some office who wants to judge me ever in my life, so I can do whatever I want in that respect. It makes no impact on the businesses I own.

If you really want to get a tattoo, do the following:

Really get one, because YOU really want to get one.

Don't be pressured, coerced, convinced or talked into it, because you have been made to think that they'll make you sexier.

Think about design and style, size and colour.

All this has to reflect who you believe you are. A tattoo becomes part of you, your persona, and no matter what, people will appraise your character, on what tattoos you choose to permanently decorate your body with.

Think about who you want this tattoo to be visible to.

No matter how tasteful, some employers need you to cover up.

I have tattoos (8 in all) but they're only visible when I decide to make them visible.

It hurts.

And tattoos require care and attention once done.

So don't think you'll be able to strut like some painted peacock the day you get it done.

Tattooing makes you bleed. It's an open wound.

Know your tattooist.

You should go round to some studios, go by word-of-mouth, attend a tattoo convention and be sure that the person who's going to change your appearance permanently, has the right and privilege, in your eyes, to do so.

Befriend them before you let them near you.

Think about it.

Well, if you really want to get tatted up be my guest, but dont do it because people in general said you would look better with them. If it is part of a style you are going for then do it. I find tattoos attractive on women but also because they identify with them.

One more thing:

consider ageing:

What looks highly sexy on you now, and makes you 'jumpable' material, may not have the same effect or give the same impression when you're 65.

It's all very well adorning your body with something designed to give a young lady the hots while you're young, handsome, strong and virile, but I know, without a doubt, that as a person gets older, that impression transforms into the ridiculous.

Just sayin'.....;)

No tattoos EVER unless YOU really want them. Don't get them because of or for someone else.

If you DO decide to get a tattoo, start out with something smallish in a nonprominent place. Neck? HELL NO! I love love love tattooed men, but neck tattoos are a big turn off to me and make me think of prisoners. (LOL Sorry!) Arm sleeves are hot, but again that's a lot of commitment for someone that doesn't even have one tattoo and is only considering getting one b/c women have claimed they'd jump him.

Also, if you STILL decide to get a tattoo and ANYONE describes the process of feeling like a bunch of bee stings, smack them for me. I went to get a big one on my back thinking "Okay, bee stings, I can handle this." HA! Try feeling like someone is burning your skin with a match.

Saying it again, (3rd time is a charm) a bartender friend has a good set of tattoos that got me thinking. Not someone telling me to get them.

Just like everyone here is giving opinions, I asked everyone I know. Unanimously, they said "do it!"

Now that is strange... I actually like the small neck tattoo more than the sleeves. lol

I have to agree with everyone else. Only do it if it's something you want to do for you not what everyone else thinks. I have tattoos and I absolutely love them but my husband doesn't care for them too much. I think it's one of those things your either love or hate.

Be positive you want it. Like absolutely positive. Neck tattoos are a pretty big commitment. Even if you change your mind, tattoo removal isn't 100% effective or sure.

FTR, I do have three tattoos and the one that I regret is, of course, the one that's the most prominent. Go figure!

Also, in hind sight, I wish I had put some temporary or henna tattoos on where I wanted my permanent and maybe exactly of what I wanted so I could decide if I REALLY wanted it or not.

Please do go by what some girl said to you and take it to heart. It's your body and do as you please with it but don't allow anyone to influence you in getting a tattoo just because they think you will look "good" with one.

Exactly what I want to do. Just load up with temporary tattoos and see what it looks like as well as how it affects the way others see me.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a respectable tattoo artist who would do a tattoo on your neck given that you have never had a tattoo.

Not sure why that would be...Plenty of people have a neck tattoo without having many others. I have seen them on tons of girls... in the back.

Yes.

All except those who have given serious thought to this consideration, and 'looked ahead'.

'Foolish' tattoos are names of BF or GF..... pictures of a spouse at your wedding.... dolphins round a belly-button, when genetically speaking, you may not be prone to remaining slender for life..... Seen all these....

My tattooist refuses to tattoo the names or portraits of relationship partners, on the basis that statistically, the tattoo is destined to last longer than said relationship.

Also be careful about going for a design which is too fashionable and will just look plain daft in a few years. I know for a while at least (I hope it has passed) there was a fad for young women having bar code tats on their lower back. Now i think that is already pretty tacky when young and slim (because it as good as says the woman is an object to be purchased) but it is going to look ridiculous on a woman as she ages.
