Wife just had baby - ways to get stomach down

Recommended Posts

Wife just delivered our first kid, a boy! Though, I'm wondering what kind of effective exercises/stretches etc she can do to alleviate that swollen stomach of hers? What have you tried? Seen results?

It will take time to go down, but she can try post-partum compression wear to help the uterus go back to it's original size.

Has she asked you about this, or are you questioning through your own critical eyes?

It takes the female body, all in all, around 18 months clear, to fully recover its old self after pregnancy/childbirth.

Tell me - what's your damn hurry?

wow. shallow much?

poor woman has JUST given birth having been a walking incubator for 9 months and is now a milk producing machine, probably a very tired one at that, and you are worried about her stomach?

These things happen slowly, usually on there own. If she is younger it will happen quicker. Concentrate on being supportive of her and giving her time and rest to recover rather than wanting her body they way you want it now. Your son needs her at the moment and his needs should take priority.

having a baby is tough on the body. Her vagina probably isn't the same as it used to be either mate.

It'll return to normal on its own, in time. It can take weeks/months.

I hope you're not focusing on the size of her tummy right now. If she is, you should encourage her not to do so, and assure her it will return to normal on its own as she gradually sheds the baby weight.

Not only that - but - and brace yourself, buddy - it's highly likely she will go completely off sex for some good time to come....

It's apparently a natural trait of a mother who's nursing..... 'breeding' is irrelevant, pointless and a waste of time, whilst there is a dependent 'babe-in-arms' needing full-time care and attention...

Congrats on the birth of your son.

Unless your wife point blank asks you about exercise, don't mention it. she's having huge self esteem issues right now. You will make things worse by offering suggestions.

Instead buy her jewelry & tell her she's beautiful.

No two are the same...A woman at my gym(who is in her 40s) had been working out right up until a few weeks before birth...Had a healthy kid and thought I havent seen her at the gym again since, some people say she looks fantastic.

Give her time...Dont be harsh or impatient..Be supportive..

Oh, and congrats!

TFY

Now knowing this, I amend my answer. Give her the info she requested, buy her jewelry & tell her she's beautiful. :)

In that case, tell her to give Mother Nature time, and to focus instead on nurturing her baby.

Trust me, the energy she will expend will help - but the housekeeping, tidying, dusting, cleaning and cooking will all take a back seat. And rightly so.....

They will probably become your duties....

I really don't think new parents can ever fully appreciate just what a difference their child will make to their lives.

With everything she will have to do, stomach-restoring exercise will pale into insignificance.

best of luck, a 'mum-twice-over' ;)

:lmao: Next time you'll know to mention this up front in the OP so as to avoid being ripped to shreds by angry posters.

Woah there horsey.

Perhaps he is asking here because she is wondering that herself and he wants to do her the favour?

Tracey Mallett has several DVDs for pregnancy and post pregnancy workouts. You can probably find them used on amazon.com for pennies. She uses "real mothers" in them so you can see it's possible.

Lol poor guy...don't worry they attack every man like that who is perceived to be saying anything negative or critical about women...on loveshack you either put women on a pedestal and go free for all on men or face the wrath of the mother hens.

Just be a drone and be supportive, it's what us men are always expected to do, never be critical about anything or say otherwise even if she instigated the question and you're just asking...chances are she may have just been revealing an insecurity and just wanted you to say it's ok.

Oh and congratulations, you're a lucky guy

Moderation stopping by to remind *all* members to be civil and respectful in your remarks. The thread starter asked a legitimate question. There's no need for attacking language or rhetoric regarding *any* gender. Thanks!

Tell her that you love her and not to worry about her tummy at all and to focus on the baby and getting enough rest when she can.

Just enjoy being parents, the rest doesn't matter at all.

  • 3 weeks later...

Oh yes, of course.

This is extremely common and happens to around 99.99% of women who have just had children...:mad:

You really think one single woman out of thousands who give birth every day makes my statement untrue?

Er......... I don't think so......

From THE SAME PAPER!

And this also confirms my statement....

I wasn't only talking about regaining the figure, you see.....

Walk, walk, walk! Seriously this works. I was a house after my 3rd. I adopted a regular routine of walking 40 minutes a day 5 days a week and saw a good 20 pound drop over the course of a year. As well as a firm belly. Yoga is great to add as well. I'd say sit ups too. But, I could never do them. Lol.

Mea :)
