Worried About Girlfriend's Bowel Movements

Recommended Posts

Well, not the bowel movements themselves, but it is the frequency of them (diarrhea every morning) that leads me to worry that she may be abusing laxatives. Are there any other signs I should look for to tell if she is abusing laxatives? And how should I approach the subject with her? I mean, we're talking poop, addiction, and body image issues all wrapped in one if this is the case.

Please help. I love my girlfriend and want to make sure she doesn't harm herself.

I am going to start looking for them. I didn't suspect anything was up until just recently. But she could always just hide them, I'm sure, and then I don't know where to look (not to mention I don't want to snoop around).

Is there another way to find out without asking her? I need more 'evidence' if I'm going to open a conversation with her on it. I imagine that a discussion that combines pooping, body image, and addiction, is one of the worse you can have.

diorrreah is a sign of gut sickness....so if she hasnt complained of feeling sick ......and has the runs constantly...then something is off......

if you check the pack and few are gone........then as with constipation....you move your bowels and then dont take them anymore......

if she hasnt complained of the runs then chances are she might not hide them or pick up you have noticed.......check her food cupboard.......medicine cabinet.....look for ford pills too.......how is her diet? what do you see her eat........deb

Unspoken but assumed is that you live together? Care to develop your comment about "addiction"?

addiction = eating disorder (implied, if she is abusing laxatives)

What are 'ford pills'?

She eats okay, but her choices could be a little healthier (could pick more produce items and drink more water). Probably 3 meals a day, a couple of (black) coffees during the day, and a glass of wine at night. Nothing suspicious that I have noticed in her diet.

You have no ability to prevent her self harm. Communicate w her or not-it's unlikely this eating disorder just started. Has she been in treatment?

Why not just address one thing. Something like "honey I don't want to embarrass you but I care about you and I'm concerned about your health. I couldn't help notice how often......."

See what she says.

You are going to have a tricky time if this is the case. In my experience people are very, very reluctant to open up about these things- even if you have it spot on.

Has she traveled to a foreign country lately? Might have brought back a parasite. Has she eaten sushi lately? Parasite. She could also have colitis and Crohn's disease. Tell her to see a gastroenterologist.
