Selling Your Engagement and Wedding Rings

So I have about $8000 worth of diamonds and platinum sitting around I need to sell.

Princess cut, perfectly clear, appraised diamonds set in a platinum ring. Also, platinum bands.

What is my best bet for getting half the value of these rings?

I know full value is impossible due to jeweler markup.

If they're certificated, e.g. GIA, etc, it's pretty easy to sell them on eBay. I used to buy and sell gems on eBay back when I was married and buying stuff for my exW.

Also, you can check out a gem specialty forum for more tips on venues. I was on diamondtalk for many years. The name is changed now to diamondring but it's the same forum. You'll find a lot of info there and on pricescope. Be mindful of the signal to noise ratio as there is a lot of profit in gem sales and it's very competitive.

If the rings are vintage/antique and unique, a local jeweler with good exposure to the vintage/antique market may take them on consignment. I bought a 1920's eternity ring in platinum from such a venue.

Given the price range of the current appraisal, it might be worth de-mounting the gem and having it certificated, if it isn't. It's also possible, if it's of high quality, that it would bring more as a loose gem than mounted.

Good luck.

Thank you!

Great advice. I will give these avenues a look. The rings are all GIA certified and appraised. I personally walked them down to a reputable appraiser in the diamond district in nyc.

Thanks!

As Carhill mentioned Pricescope is THE diamond forum imo and most people there who know and love diamonds tend to list them on a site called diamondbistro. E-bay is also good as you have the GIA certification knowledgeable buyers look for so why not try both ? At least you are being realistic in that you know you will probably only recoup half of what you originally spent. Good luck !
