pickflicker
after my breakup she told me we can have arrangements for me to get the dog. we were civil and even told me that we might get back together. so i'm here, doing everything she asks for, but then realising i'm just getting played. after all she told me, she walls me off and goes NC, so i'm left here wondering WTF happened. When someone breaks up with you, you take that as a permanent ending to the relationship. Done, finito, door closed. Of course she said some horrible things but why, oh why, did you believe her? Why did you allow yourself to be played? Have you no pride? No dignity? How can you let someone use breaking up with you as a bargaining piece? To use it as a motivator? "If you do as I say, I might grant you another relationship." Are you kidding me? She might be cold, but she's not responsible for letting her hold you to ransom. That's on you. When someone says "I want to break up with you", you say "Ok. Have a nice life." And then you walk away. You do not stand around giving into every little demand, hoping that they'll somehow respect you! Of course she doesn't want to get back with you, you handed her your backbone and said "It's cool. I don't need it." Edited January 3, 2014 by pickflicker
ThatMan
What's with the replies in this thread? People can be such pricks. There are some who are cruel, hateful, vindictive, you name it. At the end of the day we need to let go. Some drop by a bar with work buddies, others relax and watch a game, or enjoy some hobby. There are many things that are comforting during hard times. Pets are important. Legally, no, a dog is not a child. Pets are considered property and you should file in small claims if you did in fact purchase this dog. Please think about court as a safer alternative. You do not need to be held hostage trying to get a dog, friendship, or whatever promises she's made. But you need to decide how important this dog is to you before dredging up paperwork to get it back. As for the rest of you who believe Jay C's ex did the right thing, screw you. None of us are in the position to judge who is right or wrong. What I do know is that some break-ups are messy and former spouses sometimes outright steal from each other. I've been through this myself and I contacted an ex to demand that she return stolen property immediately or else I'll contact the police yet again. My experience involved wire fraud and identity theft. I couldn't imagine conflict over living animals. We all have rights and we don't simply have to sit here and accept these antics from anyone.
