tiki
What are the limitations here? Ask and I shall receive, eh? Would I be terribly tacky to ask for some weightloss?
Naive
I think that you can ask for anything but also take into consideration that you cannot leave everything to God. It's as if you ask God, "please let my day be safe today", but then you go and get in front of a moving car!!! You can ask but you have to put a grain in there too!!! HokeyReligions
The whole thing reminds me of that old story about the Monkey's Paw. It went " blah blah blahblah blah blah this monkeys paw will grant your wish. Blah blah blah blah blahblah yadda. Your son was killed. Blah blah blah cry crycry blah yadda yadda. a year later. Lets use the Monkey's Paw to bring back son. Yadda yadda clump clump echo footfalls in the dark. Son shows up at front door, his body decomposed by a year." If you ask for weight loss you might develop gangrene and lose a leg. When I learned to pray it was to ask for strength and wisdom. The ability to recognize God's work and the strength to accomplish what I set out to accomplish. I never prayed for anything tangible. Well, I DID pray for tangibles, but never got them! Moose
I think it's important to look at scripture and see why the phrase, "ask, you shall receive", is there to begin with. Jesus was talking about our faith. If we have enough faith, and we desire something.....as long as our faith is strong enough, we can ask in Jesus' name, and we shall receive it. Here's the catch 22 though. No man, or woman, has the amount of faith it would take to speak a mountain to move here, or there, and it will be so. Nor do we have enough faith to ask for the perfect bod. One thing that we all can count on is that God's will, will be done. If it's God's will for you to lose weight, you will. If not, it's not a punishment, or a curse, it could be lack of faith, or that God's will is for you to be large. You could start praying for strength to stick to a regiment that'll help you to lose the weight. Do that on a consistant basis, and I can just about guarentee you that you'll see results. That "Blah blah blah blah blahblah yadda" before the "Your son was killed" is one of the most interesting short story bits--in my opinion. The family wishes for a certain sum of money, and the son is killed in a brutal accident at work--the compensation payment being the exact amount they wished for.
Zoot
Those who have not - asked not- and when they did ask - they asked wrong. (per the Bible) Every Spiritual Law has a rule. This rule enables the Law to come to pass. If you need something, anything, ask God FIRST what the rule is and He'll guide you through the rest of the process. The reason for this is because someone may be asking for one thing when their real need is in another area. Perhaps they don't need money, they need to be freed from the fear of greed. That's just an example. So, if you have a problem, go to the source and ask HIm what it will take to meet your need. I know Him to answer.
