my boss is putting a lot of pressure on me?!?

Recommended Posts

okay so I work as a research assistant in clinical trials. I am having trouble finding patients, I am not a doctor or nurse. we have a study that is very complicated and I need help to try to identify people. we have two nurses that are not always available. since 2014 our business has been pushing. theres calls every week almost like sales calls asking us why we do not have more people. all we can do is advertise and go through our database. I have literally talked to hundreds of people, and usually come out with no successful candidates. sometimes a few, but my bosses expectations are very unrealistic. we had a bad year last year and the push is on. I am feeling tonnes of pressure when I know we can not live up to what she wants.. I don't know what to do..theres emails daily about goals...phone calls..

Talk to the boss about your struggles to find patients. Show the boss what you have done & ask for suggestions about what else you can do.

People these days know clinical trials can be dangerous. I don't understand why there isn't a move to use prisoners for these trials. Companies could pay the states money towards their keep instead of taxpayers picking up the ever growing tab. Why not contact your local Congressman to see about creating something like this? Do you have to get a petition going or put a bill up to the vote or what?

Unless the medication is for a critical, life-saving medication for which there is no alternative, I understand why people don't want to do trials, unless they're desperate. Maybe you can offer more money, to bring some more desperate people out of the woodwork?

I think much of the pharmaceutical industry is pretty lousy and unethical. Animal testing is inaccurate, unethical, and cruel, and unless I was desperate or needed the medication, I wouldn't be a guinea pig either.

The TeGenero fiasco really damaged the image of clinical trials, I think

A good boss won't just dictate goals, they'll give you suggestions, directions, and guidance on how to reach your goals.

I'd ask your boss for some guidance on how to make your current recruiting techniques more successful.

It helps immensely when you're selling something you believe in. Are you behind the idea of what you are selling? If you're not, that will have an effect on your drive and your sales pitch.

I don't like a boss that uses fear and pressure as a management technique.

I agree with D-Lish.

Hope you find some solution.

Be well,
