Skinny guy trying to bulk up

Recommended Posts

Why do all guys try and get big muscles. Listen, guys some of girls prefer skinny guys.

Not all guys try to get big but they should be allowed to do what they want. If they want to be big and strong, they are allowed to. Just like not all girls have to be skinny either. Same thing.

Alright here is what you have to do to get started.

You WILL have to to join a gym. Preferably one with lots of lifting equipment. Cardio is not for you so don't do much of it. Push ups and other bodyweight based resistance training won't do you much good with as you don't weigh much. You will need weights.

First thing you need to sort out is your diet. EAT.....A LOT. Some people burn though a stupid amount of calories just by existing so you may need to consume anything from 2500 to 6000 calories to put on some mass. You will also need to eat a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. We can hit 2 birds in one stone with that by having protein shakes. Some shakes can contain as much as 500 calories so you can get your protein and just drink down some easy calories. If You really do need to consume more then 3000 cals try a Mass gainer powder to add to your shake to make hitting your target easier.

Eat clean. Fish, Red meats, White meats, Meat, meat and meat with a bit of meat, Nuts, cheese, other dairy etc. Good carb sources like oatmeal, potatoes, rice, Pasta etc. Make sure to have lots of good carbs to.

Now the fun part. You CAN work every muscle group once a day for 3 days a week with at least a days rest period in-between work out days or work out individual muscle groups on single days as many days as you want. If you pick the former do About 3 sets each of big compound movements like squats, deadlifts, standing shoulder press, bent over barbell rows etc and do that until you've hit around 15 sets and try to hit 8-12 reps for each exercise. This set and rep range is best for inducing Hypertrophy. Just make sure to have someone show you proper form.

If you pick the latter just research a few free weight (NEVER use machines) exercises to do a day that target your muscle group for that day and do them. 3 sets 8-12 reps. Have your shake after your workout.

If results don't come you will either need to up your calories or up your weight. Do try to lift at your 10 rep max for most exercises and find the strength to do the last 2 reps if you can.

Hope I helped.

It's the image that's pushed on men just as certain images are pushed on women. It's insidious.

I'm not gonna be a huge powerlifter, but I don't see those guys in my dance or yoga classes. So it all balances out in the end. ;)

It is not pushed on men, the super big are still seen as freaks, take it how you will whether that is good or bad. It is either depending upon the publication. What has changed since Gov Schwarzenagger emerged from a microscopic sub culture to super-stardom is that a year round cut look with the mutipack abs has replaced the athletic just bigger then the average woman look among men.
