It depends on the person...I am currently 13/14% BF..I show abs and am vascular and pretty defined but my abs arent nearly as deep as when I am around 10% or so...I know guys with less bf than me that show NO abs... And while "showing abs", might be desirable to many it just isnt a good measure of someone having "ideal weight"..Many men are completely normal and healthy yet show no ab definition and maybe even carry a little bit of belly fat.. Being ripped isnt for everyone... TFY
Eau Claire
If he is 6'...at his age on an average build about 155 to 170 would be fine. Important to remember is the direction his weight gain is going. If he gaining weight then the same lifestyle will result in ever more weight gain. At 200should be shedding 30 pounds...this time next year will it be 40 pounds? At your age I personally would not make this my issue. He cares or he doesn't.
Emilia
I really appreciate all the replies and looking at things from all perspectives. he is 6'0 and around 200 pounds (im not sure, its a good guess since he hasnt told me his weight in a while.) It looks bad on him because it doesnt fit his figure. all the weight is on his stomach and thighs. And im scarred that if i tell him im beginning to loose attraction, he will take it very personal and get hurt. He is often sensitive. . . Urgh, sensitive boys.... That nice layer of protection as an excuse not to do anything in life but to sail through it, protected by their women... no thanks. I can imagine that he is fat yes. 200lbs on a 6' frame if that frame doesn't have much in terms of muscle probably looks quite feminine. Skinny fat, if you like. A lazy man's body. Wouldn't be my kind of thing. OP, it's up to you but I find it difficult to deal with men that get sensitive over lifestyle choices and other comaptibility issues. They often use that as an excuse not to anything, not to make any changes. Up to whether it's something you want to deal with long term.
Imported
If your 5'9 and weigh 150, you are skin and bones with no muscle. Sure you can be toned, but you are still a tiny man on a tiny frame to weigh so little. . If you're leaned out, you can be muscular at 150lbs and 5'9" . I stay 173lbs to 183lbs at 5'11", run forever, swim forever and working sets of deadlift at 405lbs. And pull-ups with weight added. This is not a tiny frame, I am not just toned. I'd say that 150lbs at 5'9" is a little more scaled down than comparison to myself, but it is not skin and bones......unless you're skinny-fat. Skin and bones where there should be muscle showing and a dumpy midsection with man-boobs.
