napy666
I am watching that ABC TV show 20/20 and it told the story of this middle schooler dating his teacher. Why do kids date their teachers in elementary school, middle school, and high school? Why does this happen and how does this happen?
MrCastle
I don't know if "date" is the proper term here. I mean once people find out, the teacher goes to jail. It happens because sometimes perverts get teaching jobs and take advantage of young students.
LurkerXX
The fox chooses to spend time in the hen houses because that is where the hens are. These people always have existed; it is a shame, that in more 'innocent times' that children were shamed into never speaking of what happened to them.
RaidDolEm78
You're thread title screamed out to me, as I am currently wondering this myself. Although I think you were specifically talking about the professional point of view it seems, its the general "what does an adult see in a minor?" I was dumped by my 36 year old fiance because he wanted to persue a relationship with a 17 year old.I am 35 years old. I think nothing about it makes sense to me because I would never consider doing something like this ever. Professionally, I don't know why anyone would want to risk their careers for a temporary thrill. I realize this sort of stuff happens every day. I get there are l people out there like this. Its just not worth it to me, and I get not everyone thinks the same way.
Zeroes
Well, obviously, professions like Teacher, Nursery Nurse, Paediatric Nurse, Youth Worker, etc are jobs which involve working with the young, and naturally paedophiles and hebephiles will drift towards this line of work so they can be in a position of unsupervised authority over children and teenagers. If they've never committed an offence before, they're not going to get pinged on a criminal background check, and no one who is being interviewed for these jobs is gonna be like "Yeah, I want to do this job to molest kids", so you can't and probably never will be able to stop people like this getting those jobs. Now obviously their victims are usually taken advantage of (or worse), especially so if they're children and young teenagers, but IMHO, and I know I'm probably gonna get flack for this, but when these incidents involve older students, particularly those in the 16-18 age bracket, I don't really believe in most cases they're "victims" at all, but they know damn well what they're doing. 16 is the age of consent in many civilised countries and some U.S. States for a reason. acrosstheuniverse
I don't really believe in most cases they're "victims" at all, but they know damn well what they're doing. 16 is the age of consent in many civilised countries and some U.S. States for a reason. I've always had a hard time believing this. It's one thing for an 18 year old to fall for someone much older in a social setting, quite another when they are seduced by somebody in a position of power over them (and yes, it usually is the older party seducing the younger, even if the younger party is the one making the move the older one always has the ability to accept or deny). At 16, 17, heck even 18 I would have been very easily swayed by an older, powerful man making passes at me, especially if he was saying all of the right things, and you're still figuring yourself and your sexuality out then. I lost my virginity at 17 which felt about the right timing, but the thought of that happening with someone like my teacher fills me with dread on behalf of those it happens with. It's adults playing with very delicate and not yet fully formed teenage emotions. At 22 I had a relationship with a man 20 years my senior, and it was wonderful. There was no coercion and I definitely did know exactly what I was doing. But even though I was a mature teenager, I'm not sure how appropriate that would have been at 18. I was very world-wise and even I think that I probably thought I knew a lot more at that age than I now, at 25, realise I did.
MissBee
I am watching that ABC TV show 20/20 and it told the story of this middle schooler dating his teacher. Why do kids date their teachers in elementary school, middle school, and high school? Why does this happen and how does this happen? The question shouldn't be why do kids do it, but why do adults do this. What did they say on the show? Did they not suggest some answers about it?
theothersully
I was dying to hook up with my high school chemistry teacher. Fresh college graduate. Ridiculously hot. Flirted like crazy with her on some honors project (dark, backroom, one on one involved), but sadly, she never took the bait. I would have kept it quiet and had fun with her as long as I could have. Which makes me wonder how many do not get caught.
