my parents are neat fricken freaks! all they care about is the fricken cleanliness of the house, and forget everyting else. it comes between all of the relationships in my family... i dont get why people are so materialisitc!!!

for example... my room will be clean, but they will always still find something in my room that doenst meet theia expectartions and then b--tch to me aobout it. they are ALWAYS harping about the fricken house, and the lawn (my dad mows the lawn sometimes 4 times a week) its fricken nuts!!!

now... what should i do? I'm a Christian, and I know that Jesus wasn't a materialist. so thats why i see things differently than my parents. shold i just keep the house immaculate? or should i just clean clean clean???

any ideas? anyone else have this prob?

thank you very much

If you're a professing Christian, you should know that you're required to obey your mother and father. Also, show respect for your elders. If your parents tell you that you need to clean something up, you do it. No questions asked. No angry thoughts. Until you're out on your own it's not up to you to define how clean your room should be. "Cleanliness is next to Godliness"......

On a final note....remember the fruits of the Spirit, and exercise them.

Move.

Jesus, at some point, rejected his banana parents, even if apocryphally

It's hard to be an adult if your anal and dogmatic 'rents are breathing down your neck. The truth is, sometimes parents are moronic about some things, and smart about others. It's up to you to get away and figure out which is which.

If either of your parents is, or was, abusive or addicted, get away as quickly as possible.

Good luck.

What in the world are you talking about?????

IF, you're underage and can't move, or even if you choose to live there regardless of your age, you do what your parents tell you to do. As long as they aren't telling you to do something negative, and they aren't abusive, you are required to do what is asked of you. Period.

Look Moi,

This person made it clear that they are a Christian. You and Mustard Bomb need to look away at this point. If you have nothing constructive to say to this person, you go look at another thread. You have absolutley no respect for anyone.

Again, cool your jets. We have already had the discussion wherein it was explained that that which distresses Moose does not regulate the whole planet.

I don't appreciate you trying to tell me what to do. This person asked for advice, with the clear understanding that they are Christian. Advice coming from a Christian seems more appropriate than advice coming from someone who doesn't have any respect for Christians, our belief, and what we stand for.

No, that which distresses me doesn't regulate the whole planet......that's a reality I've grown to accept a long time ago.....but if you think I'm going to sit back and allow your comments to go and be ignored or not adressed as rude, dis-respectfull, and plain STUPID, you've got another thing coming.

I apologize to iamwalrus for answering his/her post.......seems I have enemies who can't keep their smart mouth shut.

I just mean Jesus told his parents who he was, and what he wanted to do, and to sod off, at some point, and that's very cool. I'm looking it up now, but I know there was a moment of confrontation for him and Mary, where he asks for time to study scripture? This is sort a silly point, since I am not religious, and I wish I had not started it, since it's a fictional beast, but one I respect.

And it is of no real accord to this post, even.

Moose: I am completely disinterested in you, no matter how profoundly fallacious and weak-argumented you are elsewhere!

(Here we go = check Luke 2:39-52, Jesus needs some privacy. Again, I'm only interested in these passages in a scholarly way and cannot really defend myself here! I just like seeing the Bible used for good!)

yeah....

i wasn't trying to strike up religious debate.... and i hope you guys don't just take scripture and preach your interpretation... please preach The Interptretation... if you know what I mean.... you guys should check out http://www.carm.org or http://www.bible.org... they are unbiased sites about the true meanings of Christianity...

anyway, now that religion is metioned... what i am trying to say is.... how can i lead my parents away from finickyness and neat-freakness... so i can obey them? in other words... don't break the law... change it, so you won't break it type thing.... and I dont think as Christians we need to submit 100% to authority... It is important to form a grey area regarding morality... or else you become a legalist... and Ive been there, and its no fun. Jesus Told hid followers to eat whatever meat they wanted... even though the government said no... however i understand that doesn't give us the right to rebel against the government completely.... however when obeying others, we need to put God first... I could see Jesus burning a draft card.

(oh yeah and stop using that cleanlisness is Godliness as an excuse to be a neat freak) He's refering to a clean soul, is He not? I remember Jesus telling His discliples not to worry about little things and material things... because not to long from now, they will be burning in hell.

so anyway.. any tips on how to "change" my parents?

To the 'religious':

Moose, I am sick of you offending everyone else and then whining about being offended. I am a Roman Catholic. Which is, if you'll go look it up, THE Christian faith. Catholicism existed LONG before your born-again sect or any of its predecessors. I will not put up with your constant insinuations that you are the only true Christian on the planet. You better watch it; I'm afraid you're in for a smiting of your own.

To the parent problem:

Forget it. You can't change them so don't bother. In fact, learn to be neat now. It's much easier to develop good habits when you're young. It won't kill you to keep your room clean and you won't live there forever. Yes, they are being unreasonable but the world is full of unreasonable people (see above) and sometimes it's easier on all involved if you just don't tangle with them.

And now I'm off to keep my own counsel :D

I don't think Jesus said anything at all about being Catholic. Catholics came later and that's just fine. But you didn't come FIRST.

Let it go. You are wrong.
