Online Dating Experience Expectations

Recommended Posts

I know this is difficult to assess for a variety if reasons but I am curious what the response rates for online dating typically are. I'm a 30 yo guy. I'm a busy professional and just don't meet a huge number of single women in my day to day life. I thought it would be helpful so I thought trying a popular free site might be helpful. I seem to only get a response to my messages maybe 1 in 15-20. I'm not sure if it'd just a numbers game or if I am doing something wrong. Any experienced online daters able to provide advice?

Getting a response is like finding a gold nugget on the side of the road.

Actually having a CONVERSATION with a girl ( come on... you KNOW how to have a conversation. Two word responses are not conversations ) is like finding a 100 dollar bill under that gold nugget you found on the side of the road.

Actually making it to a first meet up is like winning another 5 grand by using that 100 dollar bill to gamble.

Getting a relationship from online dating from a mans perspective is like getting hit by lightning on the way out of the casino after you just flipped that 100 into 5k that you found under that gold nugget on the side of the road.

It is TOTALLY a numbers game - even for girls.

When I was doing OLD, over the course of two years, I had almost/over 200 convos (yes, full-on conversations!) and went on 50+ meet-and-greets.

And I'm a girl.

don't have the conversation. go for the meet quick.

Don't think too many girls are down to meet a complete stranger after zero conversation

I've recently tried online dating. Over 1000 people have viewed my profile, and I've gotten maybe 20 messages. I've sent probably 20 messages and gotten about 10 responses. Of the total 40, I've gotten 4 phone numbers and talked to those 4 people. The people I've texted/talked to are the ones I've actually had decent conversation with for a few weeks.

I went on one date and never heard from the guy again. I'm supposed to go out Friday with one guy I've been talking to if he ends up making plans with me. We'll see.

So it's a total numbers game.

if you look good and work out you can have unlimited girls.

Personally, I don't want to meet some random dude just because he looks good. I need to at least have some conversation beforehand. I don't base it solely on looks because a picture does not necessarily translate to how someone is in person.

Just out of curiosity, how many messages were you getting? Just figuring out the odds, given that you met approx one guy every two weeks

You get what you pay for.

The free sites scared me. I used the most expensive site out there at the time. My theory was, it was such a P.i.t.a. & it cost so much that only serious people would go through all that. Although I didn't meet the love of my life (turned out he was on the other big for pay site & we were outside of each other's age parameters), I met some quality men who were the intelligent, dependable nice guys advertised.

It is a numbers game. As a man you will have to work harder than a woman.

Don't make OLD the only thing you do to meet people. Try speed dating. They almost never have enough men sign up.

A lot of your success in responses has to do with how much thought you put into your profile. Relying on a few good photos only takes you so far. What did you write?
