Why do people eat such BAD salad dressings??

Recommended Posts

Compared to European dressings (bottled or the kind put on salads at restaurants) which usually are made from tastier and fresher ingredients, I just don't get why people buy such garbage as, for example "Kraft Italian Oil and Vinegar" when it has such a strong chemical smell that is nothing even remotely similar to a typical Italian dressing you would find in Italy. The same goes for Kraft French dressing which is an insult to the France's gastronomic culture!!

These cheap name-brand dressings are full of artificial flavours, they smell bad and don't do any service whatsoever to the vegetables. If I'm in a franchise-type restaunt like Boston Pizza and I order a salade and the server asks what type of dressing I want I simply say virgin olive oil with salt, as that is the only thing "decent" for my spoiled taste buds.

I realize this doesn't have much to do with the topics on Love shack, but to the person who finds herself eating too much, why not treat herself to a really expensive French or Italian restaurant (has to be authentic) or go on a trip to Europe and find out what good food really tastes like, then come back here and I guarantee she will loose weight because she won't like our tasteless food, cheap, convenient food.

Our local 'Old Spaghetti Factory' ( ) has a creamy pesto. OMG!!! It's the bomb. Period.

I wish I could find it in the grocery. I'd eat salads forever.

And the salad dressing at Japanese steakhouses...man what is that stuff made of? Ginger? Mmmm...I bought some one time at the restaurant. I could eat salads all day with the right dressing.

or you could replace salad dressing with any overly processed convinience food on the market.

but it boils down to personal preference, economics, and regions.

there are True americans, that only like totally process and refined foods.....but there a are poor americans that can only afford these chinky type foods.

why are non processed, all natural foods sooo much more expensive? i would think the opposite, since there usually are less additives. But i guess real food costs more than chemical additives.

Obviously many people like them and do not find them as offensive. The ranch dressings are OK. I don't like salad dressing. I have a salad every day with lemon juice. I don't like to cover up the taste of the veggies -- even lettuce! I just want a little added 'tang' and don't need the calories or fat from salad dressing. Unless I'm at Benihanna -- I love their ginger dressing!

I was reading an article that in Japan the favorite new place is KFC. They can't get enough of the stuff and they are desperate for more franchises! I have not have KFC in years -- it's nasty and dry and tastes like old flour, at least thats how I remember it.

Back when hubby & I were fighting homelessness we were quite fat. The poorer we got, the fatter. People sometimes think its the opposite (it is for some who have nothing) but for poor people the food staples are potatoes and pastas. That's all we could afford for a while. Bags of potatoes and boxes of Mac & Cheese (not even Kraft  ) Cheap and filling -- and fattening!
