Smile and Teeth...???

Recommended Posts

I know that a "great smile" can win many hearts of most ladies and is a big confidence booster for just everyday interactions and meeting people.

The problem is...I have "BAD" genes and my mom/dad passed on some crooked teeth/grill to me. Ever since grade school...I never smiled much. When I do smile...its a fake as I am trying to hide my teeth.

Its one of those things that is always on my mind and it kills my confidence/self esteem every time I look in the mirror. It also keeps me from having the social life that I want. I HATE taking pictures and always dread taking them.

It makes me sad and depressed. It makes it even worse because I come from a big family that is poor and lower class. My mom and dad never had enough money to give me (us) braces in grade school.

I am working on saving up my money so I can afford to go get braces to fix my teeth.

Should I or shouldn't I pursue this goal?

I feel too old for braces. I could get invisalign but thats WAY expensive and is usually twice the amount of braces.

I don't know how old you are but you're never told old for braces.

Here I've seen my parents friends friends wearing them when I was young, they were like 40 at the time.

I had them when I was a teenager, if I didn't get them I would have regretted it for sure.

If a physical feature is going to boost your confidence then don't think twice about it!

My neighbor got them when his son got them. My mom and dad's friend got them when she was old.

If you want to get them you should but in the meantime keep smiling anyway

Do it.

I'm not trying to be philosophical or cliche or anything... but you seriously need to go after anything that you desire. Don't let anything hold you back.

It sounds like this is something that has bogged down your confidence for a while, so I really think the investment is worth it. When you have higher confidence and self-esteem, you will thrive in so many more areas of your life.

Have you checked around to see if there are dental offices that offer a payment plan with a down payment of some sort?

If not, and you want to wait to pay in full, one thing that I can say might help jumpstart the appearance of your teeth ("grill" as you said, lol) is to whiten them. When your smile is whiter, your teeth will look cleaner and healthier.. which could take the attention away from other areas you are worried about because all women and people will see when you smile is bright whites. ;)

The Crest whitestrips work great. They are about $40 for the 2 week pack. You can also use the Crest 3D White toothpaste... its about $1 more than regular toothpaste and helps keep them whiter longer. I'd say the whitening treatment will last you at least a year before you feel the need to do so again.

Best of luck.

I was a dental technician for 13 years AND I have bad teeth. With some women, it's a big deal but with some, it's not. Guess which one's I've dated? Veneers MAY be a cheaper alternative to braces. But be advised; dentists are the snakes that snakes detest! If you find a dentist that is trustworthy, hang on to him!

The problem with whiteners is they lead to micro-porosity, which leads to thermal sensitivity and risk of caries. I don't know about laser whitening, however.

Get braces!! I pulled the trigger last September and got them on in October. I went with the old fashion train tracks. I was super hesitant at first but being 25 and having a can opener for a bottom grill sucked badly in the terms of confidence. And after my breakup I said why the hell not!!

I could not be happier with my decision, in fact I should of gotten these in my EARLY 20s. In 4 months my bite had changed phenomenally. My bottom teeth are now straight in only 4 months of treatment. I go in once a month for a wire change and power chain replacement.

The cost though sucked ass. I saved the last half of the summer for a downpayment. In total it cost $4800 and then they gave me 500 off that for some reason. I though about going ceramic brackets/wires but they were $500 more for only cosmetics. You can't hide braces no matter what so why care for white brackets/wires.

I put down $800 and my payments are. $299 a month due at the first of the month every month until treatments over. DO IT don't hesitate. Just do it !

In less than a years time from now. I will have 10/10 teeth :D

yeah... my teeth are white and perfect. a dental dream. but no one even sees them lol.

get the braces, they don't stay on long (I think) and the benefit for your self-esteem would be worth the time they are on

Depending on your teeth you should look into bonding which is cheaper than veneers and can give the appearance of straighter teeth. The dentist will bleach your teeth first to get them whiter and then match the bonding. They aren't supposed to last as long as veneers but I have two bonded teeth that have lasted for fifteen years.

I have a friend who had braces in her early twenties and they worked pretty find for her. So if you are a teenager or even in your twenties then brace should work fine for you to help get your desired results.

It's always a good idea for anyone to put some spare money aside. Perhaps when you have some money saved you can reevaluate and see if you do indeed want to have your teeth fixed. I don't think all women like men that smile a lot. Speaking for myself, as a woman, I actually prefer men who do not smile a lot, as they seem more sincere. One who does not smile a lot can most definitely appear and be friendly. Someone who smiles all the time can seem phony in a way. Some people use their eyes as a way to express themselves, by looking bright-eyed, etc. Try to focus more on qualities that you like about yourself. Good Luck

The last guy I dated had bad teeth. Gappy, yellow strange teeth etc/ But he was an attractive nice guy, it didn't put me off him. Save up and then see how you feel. In the mean time take care of your teeth floss and use whitening toothpaste etc.

People say I have a nice smile but my teeth are kinda crooked.Good luck!

I know some people with perfectly straight nice teeth and their smiles could NEVER LIGHT or LIVENED the room.

There was this one coworker of mines that had crooked teeth almost as bad as mine!! But...I was so ATTRACTED to her. I thought she was HOT and her smile was so CUTE. Her smile can light up any room even though her teeth were pretty crooked. Everytime I went to work...I was always hoping to see it. I do believe the main reason why I felt so attracted to her was the fact that we both had the same physical flaw and therefore I felt like I could relate to her.

I do experience and notice the smiling with your "eyes" thing. For example the girl I just mentioned above...I felt like her true beauty and character actually came from her eyes and not her smile.

You know what they say: The eyes are the windows to the/your soul.

I should of also stated that I don't "neccessarily" have a "bad time" attracting girls...because most of the time...most places I go...I do pull girls but thats because of my personality and character "MOSTLY". On the other hand...I also feel like I too...smile with my "eyes". I think smiling with my eyes changes some girls perception of me and therefore they can see past my crooked teeth flaw and why my dating life isn't as bad as I think it could be.

BUT...I will say that I will go get braces ASAP and fix my teeth because I know its that important to me to have a great smile.

Thanks.

If I was genuinely attracted to a guys personality and there was a baseline physical attraction then I wouldn't care about his teeth other then for his own health of course..with todays heath system the way it is its just not feasible for a lot to have perfect teeth..
