OpheliaSong
I'm not impressed.......do you mean impressing other men?
TaraMaiden
Well.... a guy opening a tight lid on my new favourite jar of chocolate spread, is impressive. Particularly if he resists the temptation to stick his finger in, before handing it back to me. Now, that's what I call impressive - !!
almond
How impressive? Well, they're approximately -17% impressive when listed on an internet forum with the intent of generating compliments from strangers. Physical displays of strength can definitely be impressive, but only when they are performed with confidence and purpose, and without the need for validation motivating them.
Andy_K
Those are all strength based. You might as well have just listed one. If the same guy can also run a 5k in under 20 mins, THEN I'm impressed.
TaraMaiden
Are you kidding me? My Step-son can do it in 14 minutes...
TaraMaiden
Hopefully that answers your question, King Bowls.... So, what's next......?
Author King Bowls
These are all hypothetical feats of strength. My next question...should I buy gold, silver, or both?
TaraMaiden
Gold. next!
TaraMaiden
The reason he has a silverback as his avatar is because we once discussed how strong they were and he hotly disputed a gorilla could possibly be stronger than a human being. I tried to present him with proof, but I don't think he believed me. he maintains he wants to be stronger than the gorilla.... If memory serves me right. Why? I have absolutely no fuquin' idea.... All these 'world's strongest man' competitions just make me laugh. I mean... why, fer chrissakes? What's the point? So - you can lift a barrel over a pole.... Good for you - so what??
Author King Bowls
That is correct, I still want to be stronger than a gorilla. Why? Because I just want to be strong. Physical strength is fascinating to me.
johan
Different things impress different people. While that guy's feats are amazing, if true, I'm not impressed that he may not live a very long life or that his later years will be filled with pain because of the things he made his body do. So - you can lift a barrel over a pole.... Good for you - so what?? I had to lift a barrel over a pole yesterday, and failed miserably at it. That damn barrel is still just lying there. Looks like I'll have to disassemble it and do it piece by piece. If there were only another way to get it around that pole, I'd be happy... wait a minute...
theonlyjuan
Not impressed My mate has some mad lifting stats, but he's fat! Would rather be healthy and fit with enough strength for the weights I do. Don't want to have bad joints when I am older either
TheyCallMeOx
Strength isn't really that impressive. Realistically, there's very few circumstances in everyday life where massive strength is useful. You're not a gorilla, so you don't need to fend off natural predators, gain territory, or anything like that. When you do get into a fight, you use different aspects of defense while gorillas tend to use only brute force. Now...if you knew Brazilian Jui-Jitsu, or how to shoot a gun accurately, then I'd be impressed.
TaraMaiden
do you actually mean 'feats' or do you mean 'feets'...?

Well I can shoot accurately with rifles, but if you don't find strength impressive, go try to lift a 500 lb rock. Just because there's not a lot of real world application to strength (in actuality there is) doesn't make it unimpressive. To say massive strength isn't that impressive is just ridiculous IMO. I suppose a man benching 1100 lbs really just isn't that impressive? ANYONE can learn martial arts, or learn to shoot a firearm with accuracy, but very few have the potential to even think about a 1000 lb lift. And im talking less than 1% of people in this world can do such a thing WITHOUT fight for life adrenaline. And I prefer brute force over a lot of those mixed martial arts, though I would like to learn some of them.

TaraMaiden
There is reason for Martial Arts. Damned if I can think of any reason why being able to lift weights is so impressive. you're on a hiding to nothing, here King. Very few people here are either impressed, or frankly care about it.... Damned if I can think of any reason why being able to lift weights is so impressive. you're on a hiding to nothing, here King. Very few people here are either impressed, or frankly care about it.... I suppose it's mainly impressive to those who do it, those people can put it in perspective of how much it really is (on any lift) otherwise, most people don't understand because they don't lift and can't put it in perspective

And im talking less than 1% of people in this world can do such a thing WITHOUT fight for life adrenaline. And I prefer brute force over a lot of those mixed martial arts, though I would like to learn some of them. You have to understand that what is considered "impressive" varies from person to person. I'm not going to say there's no one in the world that finds massive strength to be impressive, but I don't. If I was a motivated body builder, I might. However, I'm not the type of workout guy that focuses o muscle gain. I'm more about the whole package which is why I swam on certain days, ran on others, did upper body workouts, and lower body workouts. Don't get me wrong, having muscle is great. I'm not weak, but I'm not massively strong either. But am I impressed when a dude can benchpress 1,000 pounds? Not really. In fact, how can I be impressed when the dude is laying underneath a bar that has 1,000 pounds on it? In an evolutionary perspective, that's a really bad idea. If I could lift 1,000 pounds and my arms give out...that weight could crush my chest. It's not easy to be a spotter who is bench pressing 1,000 pounds. Things could go wrong very fast, and I just don't like that. And besides, if a dude can benchpress 1,000 pounds and boasts about it...I'd just tell him to run a mile on the treadmill. He'd go from "MAXIMUM MANLINESS" to "P*SSY." If I had the choice, I'd rather be able to run a couple miles than to benchpress a thousand pounds. If I could run a mile or two, I could maintain a conversation with some physically attractive women. But if you're benchpressing 1,000 pounds, you ain't socializing with anybody. More importantly, there most likely wouldn't be a woman that could spot you. Just not realistic. Enjoy that 500 pound rock though. Our civilization has these things called "tools" that I'm willing to use whenever I need to. I'll lift heavy objects, but I won't blame myself for not being able to lift 500 pounds.
