I was prepared to outline my menu for my last meal but then read the post! :D

Whew!

What I've noted as I've grown older is I eat my 'last' full meal earlier and earlier. Nowadays, my main meal is usually mid-afternoon, as I have the luxury of doing that, and then have a small snack in the evening. Last night it was some carrot sticks and cream cheese as a condiment.

I'm not dieting to lose weight, rather to remain in good health in my older years, so perhaps it's not good advice.

I also find that, compared to when younger, I tend to eat smaller meals and to eat them more slowly.

I find that I feel best in the morning (and continue to lose weight) when I eat no later than 8ish and eat a light low-sodium meal. For reference, I sleep around 11:30pm.

I usually go to bed around 10 - 10:30 PM. My last meal is typically around 5 PM. I have a final snack around 7 - 8 PM consisting of something light: natural almonds, orange, apple, carrots, etc.

I've heard that it's not about when your last meal of the day should be, but rather, WHAT is should be. To this end, I've also heard that it's good to avoid carbs after about mid-afternoon (unless you exercise in the evening). This is because your body burns carbs during the day, but if you eat them late in the day without exercise after, it's unlikely your body will need much of their energy and will simply store the excess as fat. By having your evening meal be based around protein and non-starchy vegetables, you'll get a good meal but avoid this.

I don't hesitate to eat if I'm hungry. I never, ever fall to bed on an empty stomach. The food can be stored as fat any time of day, if you eat very big meals -- the body can't process too much at once, many claim. So they advice to eat every 3 hours a small meal - 5 meals per day.

My choices are usually those;

- 30 g of almonds with 1 tbsp raisins

- 20 grams of cheese with 30 grams of whole grain rusk

- Yoghurt with a fruit chopped in and 1 tbsp of cereal or 1 whole grain biscuit in small pieces

I'll give it to you straight as am currently on a high protein, less fat and carbs diet right now and like you I exercise like there is no tomorrow to keep things tight :D

Here goes.....

- wake up at before 6am, drink a glass of water. Get a shower (yes, none of that night before nonsense...can't stand people that do that, my ex being one)

- Grab brekkie in the form of scrabble eggs or smoothies (blackberries, blueberries and strawberries for detox) or an omelette

- snack in the form of a boiled egg / cashew nuts at 10am

- lunch at noon once I get back from my 10km run daily run....halibut/shrimp/salmon usually with salad

- snacks in the form of fruits at around 2:30 - 3pm

- Supper is at 6pm max. No Carbs past this time, very crucial as it just sits in your stomach if you do.

Bed time should be before 10pm, but am usually off to bed after the 11pm news, yet am an early riser even on weekends

Oh....you need to drink lots of water in between

The body is always processing food, even when at rest...Best to eat small meals distributed throughout the day/nite...I train hard and have an active lifestyle, but do not gain ANY fat despite consuming an average of 6000 calories in a 24 hour period. I do eat clean..If I wake up at 2 AM and I am hungry, I will eat a meal..It wont be huge, but a meal all the same..

YMMV

I eat small meals throughout the day, with a slightly larger dinner. For example, I don't eat a "lunch" I basically snack all day on veggies, fruit, and then have something like hummus & whole grain pita, or peanut butter on whole grain toast, or leftovers.

I wake up at 6:30am, eat dinner by 6:30pm, and am out running by 8pm. I am in bed by about 10:30pm on average.

I usually HAVE to eat before bed, otherwise I wake up in the middle of the night STARVING. So I eat a light bowl of cereal before bed usually, and especially if I have gone for a run (along with some protein).

Careful with the "large scoops" of peanut butter. Better to just drink water with some lemon in it...have a glass by your bedside

It's seldom that I eat anything past 7pm and if I do it'll be just a few ounces of Chobani plain yogurt or maybe a glass of milk.

Simple....

Start weight training....Hard and heavy-especially core exercises.....You wont even have to worry about how much or what you eat...

I do interminent fasting...and I eat most of my meals at night. I can't sleep if I am even a little bit hungry :/

I think it's overall caloric intake that really matters.

Ideally, you want to do 8-12 reps...The key is that the last few reps have to be pretty hard-but not so hard that your form goes to hell..To put it another way, if you arent making faces and getting red at the end of the set, add more weight..

Core exercises that are best are squats, pullovers, deadlifts, rows,,..etc.You can mix in some isolation movements, but nothing beats basic core exercises..

Good luck

If you want a simple way to lose weight, come up with a schedule of eating - for instance, breakfast/lunch/dinner and no snacking - and then slowly cut out carbs. Eventually, you'll discover how many carbs you need in your diet to lose bodyfat, but also to maintain your energy levels. In place of the carbs, you focus on eating more protein and healthy fats. There's also Tim Ferriss' slow-carb method, which replaces typical carb sources with beans.

To me, I think a better method is to exercise a lot more - a minimum of 30-60 minutes a day of either weight training or cardiovascular activity. Everyone should exercise and do it in a fun, engaged way. You can run, bike, swim, take spin classes (HIIT helps burn fat), play sports. If you stick to the diet above and exercise, you'll lose bodyfat quickly and effectively. But when you add the exercise, it gives you more leeway with the diet because you'll need extra carbs for energy.

Thanks guys. Yes i have reduced my carb intake. Stopped eating bread, pasta, rice. I swapped bread for wraps but oatmeal wraps. I snack on apples, orange. I have stopped all the junk crap now. Nooo longer drink fizzy now, mostly water i drink but noo more fizzy from drinking alot of fizzy.

The exercise i usually go gym 4/5 maybe 6 times a week. I wake up at 6 to do a spin class at gym now. I usually do an hr cardio and maybe about 45 mins weights. I have started lifting heavier weights and trust me i sweat like a pig like ive been in the sauna for 3hrs. If i dont drip in sweat i dont feel like ive worked out

That's awesome stuff! You're on your way :)

One note about fruits. I absolutely love fruits, but be careful not to eat too many servings. The fructose in fruit converts to fat more efficiently than any other carbohydrate. I'm a slim guy with high metabolism and too much fruit even has a negative effect on me. I wouldn't eat more than two small servings a day, and focus on the ones with less sugar. For instance, I used to eat one whole banana and a large fruit cup with lots of red grapes. I now have 1/2 banana and limit it to only 1/3 of the grapes from before and focused more on berries.

Be careful with too much cardio...I know it sounds counterintuitive, but you are far better with high intensity, short duration type of work...Its late so I wont get into a long winded explanation on this, but look up what effect Cortisol plays on the body...

And I agree with the previous poster..Excessive fruit consumption will kill any weight loss regimen for most people..And you need not be too strict with the complex carbs..They will fuel your workouts, especially weight training..

Most people that see me think I live in the gym.. I actually spend no more than 6 or 7 hrs a week, max...But I speak to no one, dont have a cell phone and I am all business..Duration is less critical than intensity...

Good job!!

I think studies have proven that eating before bedtime causing weight gain is a myth. A cheeseburger eaten before bed will contribute just as much to your weight as a cheeseburger eaten for lunch.

IMO you should just eat whenever you feel hungry, but watch your portions and calories in vs out, and don't neglect GI and nutrition balance.
