Being too kind/too sweet

Yeah, especially in dating but I don't think that's what you're referring to. In dating, it seems like if you're to nice, you get walked on and spit out, "nice guy syndrome". With people, friends, not nearly as much. I did loan an ex-friend $3,000 and he dragged his feet paying me back for over a year so I sued his ass. He showed me, he filed for bankruptcy.

yes, too sweet, too easy to be used, wait to see what people are like first, be loose and/or casual until you see good reason to get more involved

It's good to have a balance. If I were you I'd try to remember to be a little bit selfish too because if you're always thinking of them and they're always thinking of them then who is thinking of you?

Balance is the word.. I find it hard to keep at distance to see what a person's like at first.

When I see something I can help with, I do it without questioning, but the other way around, I never like to ask people to help me, maybe I should change that.

It's just that I find that when somebody is going to help me with let's say homework, they do it with half interest...and then their help is of no use. I Immidiately sense it when somebody is doing something they actually don't feel like. I know it's weird.

This doesn't count for my family though, they're always there for me.

A lesson of selfishness hmmmm any tips?

I remember a similar posting, just a lil - the posting said something along the lines of asking the acquaintance for a favour and seeing if they are nice. I imagine this will feel very unusual to you, but it is a good way of vetting people, the only way. Mind you, homework leads to a career eventually, so it is possible that they are guarded at the thought of quite a big giveaway of knowledge to any competition to that career - namely you. Only from family do you have the right to expect 100% loyalty.
