MoroccoMole Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Hey all, so I broke up with my ex a few months back and the longer time goes on the more I regret it. Anyway, I've found a calm in certain movies/tv shows and the goofy, sincere messages they try to deliver. What are some of your favorite movies/tv shows that have gotten you through your rough time?
Poppygoodwill Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I like catharsis and also something that shows me things could be worse. The Color Purple is a favourite; I cry from the opening credits all the way to the redemption of an ending and then feel relieved and calm.
CaliGypsy Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Something funny like Wolf of Wall Street that I can recall funny parts when I'm down to give myself a little boost when I need it. Bridesmaids always works too. Especially the Melissa McCarthy parts.
bubblesbursted Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Forgetting Sarah Marshall ! I loved it & also Hall Pass! 2
FortunateSon Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Sideways(while drinking a glass of wine), The Break-Up, and Swingers are a couple of my favorite Break up movies.
OzHeartache Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 500 Days of Summer................ Shows all us dumpees there "IS" hope even though none of us can feel or see it quite yet 2
David87 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 In this order .. Blue Valentine (2010) Celeste & Jesse Forever (2012) He's Just Not That Into You (2009) 1
TaraMaiden Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 ...Bridesmaids always works too. Especially the Melissa McCarthy parts. I watched this film the other evening. I think I laughed twice; the rest of the time, I was so irritated by the so-called humour, I felt like throwing a brick at the TV and pouring ground glass into my eyes. Banal, stereotypical, and every joke was flogged to death... just too much laboured and repeated, under the assumption that the more they worked the joke the funnier it became. Well, they got that wrong, IMO....
4everalones Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Swingers is a really good breakup movie. It helped me a lot. PS: I like your username. Morocco is my native country 1
David87 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 The Shining. The book it's better than the movie, and I don't think it's appropriate to watch after a breakup, it has nothing to do with it. Fight Club is what you should have recommended, right Tyler ?
Author MoroccoMole Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 The Shining. lmao idk about the shining right now I'm too impressionable, maybe in a couple of months lol
Mondmellonw Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Any of the "Spiderman" Saga. ... don't ask me why.
mantlefan Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 In this order .. Blue Valentine (2010) Celeste & Jesse Forever (2012) He's Just Not That Into You (2009) Yeah Blue Valentine was big for me. Was so sick of all the movies with everything working out and the reconciliation at the end. I will look into those other two.
David87 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 You'll absolutely love `Celeste & Jesse Forever` I promise
Author MoroccoMole Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 I just watched it, it was awesome!! Great suggestion ^_^

Well, they got that wrong, IMO.... My son felt the same way. And even though I don't disagree, every time I think about MM driving away with all those puppies it makes me laugh. I am fairly easily amused though. 1
Tulipsgold Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 500 Days Of Summer. That film is the face of my entire break-up. And it is such a good written story. If you really want another honest, devestatingly beautiful and heartbreaking film, watch "Blue Is The Warmest Color". It is truely a film that captures the essence of what it is to fall deeply in love, being changed by it, slowly moving in different directions as you grow in the relationship and eventuallu losing love. It was last years Cannes Palm D'or winner. I've seen it two times now, and its a film that stays with you. For a very long time. 1
