weightloss success stories?

Recommended Posts

I went through a bad break up a little over a year ago, still getting over it unfortunately. But in the process I've gained 50lbs. My weight has always fluctuated and I'm ashamed of myself for really giving in to whatever it was that I wanted at the time and using depression or heart ache or back pain as an excuse. I know losing weight wont solve my problems, but I know it certainly couldn't hurt them either. I've done TONS of diets in the past and life style changes, from water fasting, to counting calories, to cutting carbs out. I know its unrealistic to lose all of this weight by summer (3 months away) and even unrealistic to lose it by my friends annual week long beach house birthday at the end of July (5 months away) but I'd love to take whatever advice I can get, or hear some inspirational stories. I'm 5'2 and 160lbs right now.

Is it completely unrealistic to hope to lose 50 lbs in 5 months? What strategy's do you guys use?

50lbs in 5 months is 10lbs a month. That is roughly just over 2lbs a week. It's not unreasonable, but it will take some work.

First of all... have you identified your eating issues? What, in your diet, made you gain that amount of weight? That is the best way to start.

There are tons of diets out there. Personally, I've found that I can't keep to restrictive diets for long. I start craving whatever it is I'm not supposed to have in just a few weeks. And binging is really not good.

I think it's fairly accepted that a low carb diet will produce better result in the short term. So, you know, cut down your bread/rice/pasta/potato intake. Substitute for vegetables.

Exercise will help as well. Not only will it burn some fat, it will also slim you down and tone you.

it is achievable. You just need to stick with it!

I've started to go to the gym 5 times a week for about a month now and I've lost about 10lbs. I've cut out processed foods and fast foods and bleached rice, bread, and any types of noodles. I've also cut off pork completely and just stuck to chicken and fish for a while now. When I find myself hungry I grab fruits or trail mix and they've helped my urges to eat large meals. And lastly my dinner time has changed from 10 p.m to 7 p.m.

You could join Weight Watchers. I work with several people who have been successful and it's always been rated as one of the top programs in the country. There is another one that is more expensive called Lindora. You have to report to someone every week to get weighed, but I think WW is the same. Both systems offer emotional support so that might be what you need if you don't have self discipline.

I lost almost 100 pounds my last couple years of high school. But that was mostly from not liking my parents and staying in my room not eating until they went to bed.

Whenever I've gone up a few pounds more than I like since then, the number one thing that's helpful has been keeping my mind busy. Also if you can find something else to transfer your addictive tendencies onto that would be good. Sometimes if i feel like eating i'll just masturbate a couple of times a day instead. Which doesn't put on weight but satisfies the need to overindulge. But certainly jacks up the laundy detergent bill.

I think you would be capable of doing this.

My sister lost around 70lbs in 4 months. Can't remember exactly what she did but lots of detoxing and clean eating. Certainly doable though.

HumptyDumpty

Well, maybe a little late but doesn't matter does it? People always struggle with this :)

I don't have any huge success stories to share yet! However, I'm in the process of loosing the weight so maybe it'll be a little help? :)

First of all, you can fix your ideal weight but the most important to focus on how to get there instead of a number! That way will get you there!

Forget diets! You'll just crave stuff even more once it's finished and you want to keep those pounds of forever! Change your way of eating forever! I think calories counting is still the bes way! I try not to calculate every little thing I eat but I do keep in mind what food has which amount of calories? If I eat high calories, I eat less in the day! Also, I like to binge eat! Instead of some tiny pieces of chocolate, I eat the whole thing! Maybe cause I'm bored and it's too comfortable! I don't buy it even more and when I have stuff in the house, I limit it! I learn to discipline myself for once, thing that was inexisting!

I don't like to do sports like that, what I do is some easy stepping exercises on youtube, it does get me sweating and moving, thing I don't do a lot in the day! It's so easy, 15min in the morning to wake up before taking the shower!

So... don't pressure yourself! Get an app, I have Weightmeter to keep track daily of my weight and even if I lose 100 grams a day, it's better than getting bigger right? :) I'm just SO sick!!! So sick of having more fat that muscles that every tiny little action only can do good :)

Oh yeah, on youtube you also have the british series "supersize vs superskinny"! Very helpful! Seriously, I love watching it from time to time, I learn so much from it and it makes me realize how I eat! :)

Good luck, hope we'll get there sooner or later :bunny:

After my breakup I couldn't eat, I just vomited or I got the runns. After that, I could eat again I gained a bit to much. I cut the unhealthy carbs (white wheat, sugar, etc). I started eating more protein and I exercised. I lost weight (and kept it of) in a healthy way.
