george roy
Hello all, Not sure if this is the right sub-forum for this question. If the mods deem that it needs to be moved to another forum, that's ok. Short version: Divorce. STBXW had an affair. Although STBXW has been playing nice, it's been tough to figure out what her game plan may be at this point. STBXW recently upgraded to a new phone. And left the old one (out of service) sitting on the dresser. Quite a few texts have been deleted (it's obvious based on the frequency of her usage). There are a few still on there, but nothing incriminating. A look at the other side's possible plans could be a serious game changer. Is there a way to recover text messages from an out of service phone ? Any input and suggestions are appreciated.

dumped2013
With an iphone she probably had imessage enabled which means anyone that she texted that had an iphone the text was sent as data through the internet and not text through the phone network. If she was texting someone that did not have an iphone it would have been sent through the phone network and you would possibly be able to get those records from the phone service provider. amaysngrace
Everything is backed up on iCloud. You need to contact Apple and they'll tell you how to retrieve that info.
Tripz
I would imagine you'd have to have a court order to retrieve those records. Texting is actually how I began to discover the affair my wife was having. While I couldn't see the actual messages, I could see how many texts she was texting to a friend of ours. 1700 at the time I looked, for the plan cycle, to my only 50 or so to her for the same time period. At first, I was just upset that she was talking that much to him (still thought it was a good plutonic relationship between them) and thought if she'd given me 1/10th of that much communication, perhaps we'd be in better shape. A little later, after I found some other evidence, I looked into trying to retrieve those actual messages from Verizon. They said they legally couldn't do that, even though my phone was the main billing phone on the plan. I have an Android, though. I'm probably glad to not have seen what they were talking about, in hindsight. There were a lot of SMS picture/video's being sent, to. The mind can really work you over and mine is pretty imaginative. Best to let some sleeping dogs lie, in my opinion.
