Disillusioned
I learned how to sew in junior high when I was 12. In the years since then, I've bought and used 5 sewing machines, made not only clothes for myself but bags, pillows, dog & cat toys, and stretchy bike shorts for a friend of mine who's a fitness nut. I don't know how a woman would feel if she knew I can make all kinds of clothes that last longer than anything you can buy in stores, and probably fit better too... I've heard rumors that department stores get a big kick out of tagging women's clothes one or two sizes too small than what they really are... notice you don't dare do this to big & tall men's clothes, or else your business evaporates! But if, for example, I was dating a woman who really wanted some nice outfit but it's too expensive, not available in the color she likes, etc etc, would she want to date a guy who could make it for her, in the color and fabric she likes best? That's the million dollar question. I really wonder about this, because my granny was the clothes horse of the family... one of the women in my asexual meetup group always dresses attractively, even though I haven't said anything to her about it. TaraMaiden
You do realise that most of the world's top designers in haute couture - are men? And yes, they all know how to sew.... And Kaffe fassett - one of the world's top knitwear designer and manufacturer - is a man. My grandad, FiL and uncle, were all taught to knit while they were in the military... So frankly, I wouldn't be bothered one way or the other. I'd be impressed, but it wouldn't affect whether I'd date you or not......
carhill
If you're an attractive man who sews, you're an attractive man who sews. When formulating the answer, past roles played by Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan came to mind. This is akin to being self-sufficient, well-traveled, successful in business, etc, etc. You can be all those things but it's attraction that gets the interview and IME that is a completely separate issue. It's how you look and carry yourself that gets the interview. You could be Edith Head (famous costume designer) with a beard but if you're not attractive, even if you can sew gowns that win awards around the world, it won't make any difference. Cart and horse. Make sure the horse is in front of the cart.
