Hot Topic May 2007 Borders Books Sign Spinner February - March 2011 Revolver Magazine 2013 - Present Metal Maniacs Magazine 2009 - Present All Access Magazine 2008 - Present IF I am applying to retail or fast food places i.e. McDonalds, Burger King, Jack in the Box, Carl's Jr, Pizza Hut, Domino's Pizza, Kmart, Sears, Target, JC Penny, Macys, Hot Topic, Toys R Us, Barnes and Noble, Ross, Claire's etc. Should I put down these as my work experience or should I leave the work section BLANK? I have listed the magazine writing as work for these places when applying but never heard back. Other people have told me that Hot Topic 2007 and Border's Books 2011 are too told to put on an application or resume because your resume or application needs to have work thats been there for 1 year not 10 years etc. What should I do? almond Posted March 5, 2014 Share Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) The thing that would deter recruiters is that your time in the first two positions was incredibly short. I would leave them both out. Make sure someone proof reads your resume and cover letter and checks formatting etc. I know in your last thread you said you flat out refuse to do volunteer work simply because you don't get paid, so obviously you're not too fussed about volunteering your time to help people. But, how about you volunteer so you can add it to your resume? It will help you. Experience in a soup kitchen or or an op/thrift shop would work to your advantage when applying for retail positions. And I'm guessing none of them directly relate to either fast food or retail. Focus on your strengths in school - organized, good at math, communication - as much as, if not more than what you've done at prior jobs. Are any of these PAYING jobs?
