My dad is breaking the law withholding my checks in Colorado cause he only trust his bank. Society Assets will help me budget it. My dad is lying to me and doing things behind my back without having to ask me first. He's opening my ssdi mail. Me and my fiancee want to live together but my dad keeps bringing up low income apartment it is a one bedroom and we can't have it til we are married
preraph Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 If you feel your dad is taking your SSDI checks, you really need to contact the police to make it stop. They may refer you to some other entity like adult services to come into the home and see what's ging on there. As far as the bank you want to manage your money, never heard of them. They will be taking a percentage to manage your money and you may not be able to afford that at all. But there's no reason you shouldn't be able to deposit your checks and move your money anywhere you want. I don't know your state laws, but you should be able to some way contact the housing authority to see about whether you qualify for the apartment or what it takes to do so. Maybe your girlfriend can look into it. If you feel your dad is taking your money, please contact the police, explain your situation, and see if they can get someone to sort it out. You didn't say if your dad is your legal guardian and has power of attorney over you. If it's guardian, you'd have to go to civil court to get it removed. If it's power of attorney, you can get a Revoke Power of Attorney form even online and sign it and make it stop as long as it was a revokable power of attorney to begin with. You might end up having to get an attorney or something, but call the police first and see if they have referrals for you to get help from social services to intervene and straighten all this out. Civil court is where you do lawsuits. You need an attorney for that. And they're expensive.
