Mr Scorpio
First, I don't think that woman is particularly toned. Second, I don't think people should get intimidated by others at the gym. Any person who would ridicule an out-of-shape individual who is trying to increase their health is a person not worth listening to. At the same time, this line of fitness-centers is geared towards entry-level customers, not athletes and bodybuilders. While my initial reaction to that is "toughen up!", I've never been obese and thus can't understand that perspective. I will say that all the fat jokes aimed at Chris Christie serve to illustrate how immature/insensitive people can be regarding other's weight.
Chocolat
Pretty much par for the course at Planet Fitness. The woman isn't even all that "toned."
thefooloftheyear
Im calling BS on her part...Maybe they were being sarcastic? I know women wayyy more fit/toned/muscular than she is...She wouldnt even crack the top 10 in my gym...and that place isnt the most hardcore place out there.. That being said, they probably dont want women walking around with, what looks like little more than a sportsbra...I can see that...It can be unsanitary as well..Same for the meathead guys that wear cut up tops.. Ill never quite understand the logic behind wearing skimpy clothes at the gym..If anything, you want to be as covered up as practical..Muscles do well when they are kept warm and protected...That stuff is for attention whores..Leave that stuff for the boardwalk-if thats your thing... TigerLilly78
Im overweight I go to the gym usually women's gyms are my preference tho never been to a pf. My guess some unhappy over weight women got jealous and made a fuss witch is total BS! I dont think that outfit was inappropriate for a gym ive seen a lot worse. Shes proud of her body nothing wrong with that.. Edited March 20, 2014 by TigerLilly78
seekingpeaceinlove
Lol. I don't see any problem with her outfit. Her "toned" body doesn't stand out either so I don't see what people were complaining about. Personally, I don't mind what people choose to wear to the gym. I have tunnel vision when I'm working out and don't really pay attention to others. The only time I get annoyed are with people who lack standard gym etiquette. People who sit and socialize while hogging the machines, those who dangerously drop really heavy dumbbells near me and those with nasty body odors. I've seen girls with their butt cheeks hanging out (bit unsanitary), side boobs out on display, see through tights..etc. Doesn't really bother me. I actually enjoy seeing tighter bodies than mine as it motivates me to work harder!
Art_Critic
I saw that on the news last night, the gym said they have a no tank top policy and she was wearing a tank top that crossed into their dress code so they asked her to cover up... not because she was too toned but revealing too much.
Imported
It's Planet Fitness. That gym is for people that thinks everyone is looking at them thinking down on them because they are out of shape while in reality no one even noticed them. And at the same time they try to shame anyone in shape referring to them as "lunks". Hopefully some "lunks" sues them for discrimination.

When I go to the gym, I go to workout, not to be around people trying to get attention or being in their social circle around equipment.
Phoe
There's a lady at my gym who's super fit, her body is killer, but she works out in just a bra. Boobs out everywhere. She does this everyday. She looks great, but I mean... come on lady. Put on a shirt. It won't kill ya. I rarely see women get hit on in my gym, but she was getting hit on yesterday. The convo definitely went sexual, I overheard "sex hair" being mentioned by him. I was mostly annoyed though, by the fact that he was hitting on her while she was sitting at the last machine I needed to use for the day, and they talked and talked and talked.... and she sat and sat and sat.... and I wasn't about to tell her to get off the machine, but I REALLY wanted to finish my workout lol. gaius
If I'm a fat guy there's no way I want to look like a fool with my boobs bouncing up and down in the air in front of her while I try to exercise. Only in front of other fat people who can relate. Good call planet fitness.

Andy_K
I guess that is toned by American standards. We know they've got a bit of a weight problem across the pond...

Haha now now I meant I have a more athletic build than her but not what would be considered 'toned' (ie not low body fat %)
almond
I sometimes workout in a cropped tank top, especially in summer. I can assure you that I am far from an attention whore - I just find them very comfortable, and I like to see my abs while I work out. It's just a stomach, I can't imagine why others would be offended by this! I don't wear a shred of makeup, and my preferred bottoms are baggy tracksuit pants. I do love my leggings too. To those that swim in bikinis...is this also classified as attention whoring? Why not a one-piece? Or does this cover up policy only apply to tank tops in the gym? Makes no sense to me. Trust me....She's not "toned" at Planet Fitness...Or anywhere else on Planet Earth...I know women that never set foot in a gym in their life that would embarrass her.. No...but a thong is certainly attention whoring... I like the idea of no tank tops...A lot of people smell like crap(BO) and they dont even know it.I swear one guy at my gym wears a tank top, abd smells so bad, when he starts doing lat pulldowns or pullups everyone leaves the area....Ive got a killer set of abs,,,,I can look at them when i am home, if I want to... TFY ...many people that wear one-pieces would disagree with you. It's subjective...and the same people in here that are stating that only an attention whore would wear a tank top to the gym, would likely not bat an eyelid at women walking around in bikinis at the beach. Seems a bit contradictory...tank tops are gym wear, and are hardly inappropriate or offensive. Sure, there are more modest options, but there are also alternatives to the revealing bikinis that are commonplace. The fact is, not everyone that wears a tank top is an attention whore, and jumping to conclusions about the motivations behind the choice to wear an item of gym clothing is rather foolish in my opinion.
Chocolat
Phew, thanks. I thought if she was 'toned', what would that make me? Actually, I was thinking of going to PF just for the ego boost. If that woman was "toned," then I'm Miss Olympia.

I agree tho the only thing I ever found kinda nasty was when they wear those super tiny bras im talking not even a work out top. And then the g string thing up the butt? I mean I just look the other way but yeah how is that even comfortable to work out in..lol
Chocolat
Interestingly, the Planet Fitness's in my area are now all "YouFit." You can tell it used to be PF because of the awful purple equipment everywhere, but, apparently the PF name wasn't doing well here.

The type of clothing that you have described is super revealing, and wouldn't be appropriate in any public place. But a bit of midriff being offensive in a gym? Lol, I find that ridiculous. Tank tops and midriff tops are often worn out on the street, and it's fine. But walk into a gym and it suddenly becomes the act of an attention whore? As I said earlier, I enjoy working out in a tank top. I feel less restricted and more comfortable...I just feel fresher. I don't like being all sweaty and having my t-shirt stick to me. I don't see the harm in it at all, and I'm sorry if people choose to take offense to my generally innocuous clothing choice...but that's their problem, not mine.

I dont think anyone is "offended".??.*shrug* There is another side to this as well....Some of us with good physiques really dont want to knock the dicks in of little/fat guys who are just getting started or doing the best with what God gave them, nor do I feel like getting gawked at by every guy that wishes he had a set of huge guns/shoulders, etc.... But thats me.... TFY

I mean, how does that even stop you from working out in any way, shape or form? Anyway, offended is a fairly strong word...I am just baffled as to why tank tops bother people at all, especially to the point where rules are introduced to outlaw them and are strictly enforced. The whole thing just seems pretty ridiculous and backwards to me. But hey, I don't even go to the gym...I much prefer to exercise outside, so good luck to them I suppose
