What is your favorite Jesus movie of all time?

Recommended Posts

Only those born of the Holy Spirit will endure through his deception.

Definitely!

Don't know about the church-goers though. I actually think they're pretty hardcore. I think it's a whole lot easier to NOT go to church, than to stay committed. There's so many distractions. Those who do find themselves at church on Sunday (for the most part) are pretty incredible, imo :).

It's been proven in psychological studies that attractive people win the trust of others more easily than ugly people.

I also believe most church-going Christians will follow the antichrist when he does come. I get a lot of flack for saying things like this, but I believe it's true. Only those born of the Holy Spirit will endure through his deception.

I agree and the Bible even speaks of this.

How many times do we see or hear of people who used to be Christians. IMO either it's a backslidden state, or they never were.

Off the record a bit- where my children and grandchildren are concerned, they've been taught my truth, although they were/are encouraged to keep it real, meaning to please not follow the Lord simply to "please" me, do it to please God.

M30, I do agree concerning the psychological study, although does anyone have an idea as to why God chose Jesus (this sounds weird because Jesus is God also, but I don't know any other way to word this) to be not so attractive? IDK, I have very strong opinions concerning the attractive/unattractive thing, so this is very interesting to me.

I think it's just an issue of why God will send the "strong delusion". The purpose will be to divide the flesh church from the Spirit church , the institution from the heart, the ones following man's wisdom from the ones following the Spirit. The correlation between church attendance and true salvation is there, I agree, but it's very loose.

Pie2, when you posted Isaiah 53 I just caught something subtle that I had been passing over until now. It says he [Jesus] was like a "root out of dry ground". This means he was righteous offspring from an unrighteous ancestry. God made something out of nothing. It's just like when Nathaneal asked Phillip where the promised messiah was. Phillip told him in Nazareth and then Nathaneal replied, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?"

Is anyone going to go see the movie Noah?

G

Really? I think it looks like Braveheart crossed with Armageddon. I'm going to see it for the giggles.

M30! That is so funny :). That same thought occurred to me for the first time yesterday too as I posted that verse. How weird :). And I've actually been thinking about that verse today...

Do you think of Nazareth as "dry ground", in a literal sense? It seemed that Phillip had that impression that it really was dry ground (ie a worthless , dead place). I mean, I'm sure Nazareth was low on the economic ladder of the time, but was it riddled with corruption or some other horrible problems?

I think the Messiah coming from a town such as Nazareth is like a root coming out of dry ground because it was so unlikely (as is a root from dry ground). Also, a root coming from dry ground gives the impression that that root is extra special, and extra strong, as it's triumphed from the most difficult of circumstances.

I'd agree. The "root out of dry ground" is a simile for something unlikely or impossible.

I also believe that similes/analogies can be used in cases where something is, in fact, literal. For example, a "root out of dry ground", while a simile, is still LITERAL because what it describes is something that is literal and actually did happen (righteousness coming from unrighteous people in form of Jesus). Therefore literalism is not about whether the simile is literal, but rather whether what is being DESCRIBED is literal. This has been the subject of much confusion with regard to bible interpretation.

I'm going to see it this weekend, yes.

I look forward to your report as well! I think we will maybe catch it next weekend.

I read some things that say Christians shouldn't support it because it's dangerous and deceptive and taking out of context "many will come in my name to deceive..." I mean c'mon it's a movie!

The whole idea of we shouldn't be increasing their profits and saying it's against God is just nuts. It's people like that who give Christianity a bad name.

I go to the movies to be entertained and maybe inspired depending on the movie. I can't imagine boycotting something because it's not portrayed 100% accurate, especially when it's a movie!

The special effects look really cool. And anything having to do with water regardless, I'm there! :)

You know when you read something and it completely takes you over spiritually? This description did- wow

I have to wonder if God is giving the individual what they wanted in the first place, meaning the delusion...

Yes, I agree with you as long as it's not way off, like going into weird stuff. I wonder if it's planned propaganda? To discredit the movie. I've been inspired greatly with secular movies many times- if there's a good message, then it's a good message:D

Are you a fish? I am and have been a swimmer all of my life:D

Well as far as the movie Noah- I'm hearing some stuff …thinking it should only be for entertainment purposes?

Ha! Too funny you mention that! I wear the ICHTHUS. Around the time the journey necklace was popular, I loved that look, delicate diamonds...etc. But I prefer things unique. I saw an ICHTHUS but the diamonds were prong set, so even though it was small enough it was "too" much bling. I like sparkle and fire, but delicate, so my husband had this custom made for me, it's small about 3/4 inch but since the stones are inset, it's flush. Since it's custom, it doesn't have that mass produced with low quality, no fire chips issue. It has such fire, despite being small. There's a tiny "floating" cross in the center. And it's one of the ways IRL that has been a tool for dialogue. As I've mentioned, because of my job I can't speak faith first to a person, but this lets them know I am open to them if they choose. I love how each Greek symbol means Jesus, Savior etc...and that it was how the early Christians communicated. :) Wow! Okay, you can see I'm excited about "fish"

No, I'm not a "fish" if you mean Pisces. I'm a Scorpio though I don't follow any of that stuff anymore. But I can see the common traits, I'm passionate for sure, but not vindictive so....However "tech" I am on a cusp as well so maybe that's why I "see both sides" lol. Honestly I think it's more of God's humor because as some things do fit others don't. I don't think it's good to focus on. I understand it's supposed to be a water sign too, which I could never understood why...but eh, I guess that part could be true as well, as I love anything water. I have table top fountains, the ocean, is my favorite thing/place in the world. Hearing water reminds me of the Holy Spirit :) As well as fire, but that's another topic!

It's interesting how God uses water and fire throughout time to show his awesome power and feel his love though!

"Jesus of Nazareth" (1977)

Classic.

The two films were shot two years apart, and used the same set in Tunisia. A bunch of the locals appeared as extras in both films (I imagine they may have been curious about the two different approaches).

Life of Brian is hysterical. "Judean People's Front", "People's Front of Judea."

Wow, that sounds divine…if I were to see it, know I'd buy it because it fits my tastes and style perfectly. Bling is so cool, love bling- never too much bling:laugh:

Oh, hadn't even thought of the Pieces fish! I've always been called a fish because of loving being in the water, it's sooooo freeing. I love the elements too (but those back east would surely disagree with this!).

Passion of the Christ by far. Still brings me to tears. The actress who played Christ's mother is awesome, and Monica Belluci gives a surprisingly good performance as Mary Magdalene. No one that I have seen who has played Jesus in past films even touches Jim Cavaziel in his portrayal of Christ

I have made a conscious choice not to see the movie "Noah". This is because of several articles, interviews, and quotes I have read by the director in regard to the purpose and scope of the movie. I'm sorry to disappoint anyone who was waiting on my review!

I had no knowledge of the movie until a few days ago, only that it is called "Noah" …seems innocent eh? I came to the very same conclusions as you did AND saw a political slant, but I could be wrong on that note. From the clips I saw it seemed that way.

It borders on fiction. At first I thought it was promising because it includes "the watchers" (ie, fallen angels) but then I found out: 1) they come down to inhabit the bodies of rock/stone giants (what the heck?), and 2) Noah calls down these fallen angels to fight on his own side (exact opposite of truth).

The main reason I didn't go is that I don't respect the director's comments on Scripture, the story of Noah, and Christ. He additionally admitted that he didnt intend to stick to the Scriptural narrative.

He won't be getting my 10 bucks.

'Last temptation of christ' with daniel defoe, only one that seems to have a semblance of reality about it, all the others too idealised, exept maybe the passion of christ which is ok, but seem to concentrate on the gruesomeness of the scourge, rather than the deeper mental struggle. A christ struggling with his humanity and divinity, cool. How many people on the path to truth haven't had similar battles, sure most have.
