M30USA
Cast your vote! And, if you want, give a brief reason why that one is your favorite. Here's mine: "Jesus of Nazareth" (1977) To me it seems the most believable from a character standpoint of Jesus. I like how he almost looked intense and riddled with suffering most of the time. Isaiah the prophet described him as a "man of sorrows" and "familiar with suffering". This is why I prefer this movie over the newer ones which almost make him seem like a happy-go-lucky guy. Another great thing about "Jesus of Nazareth" is how well it sticks to Scripture with regard to events and quotations.

I'm sure I've seen this version, but now you've caused me to be curious, so will have to see this one. What about the "Passion"? I never was able to watch this version, due to it almost being true to form as far as the crucifixion. I saw an interview with the actor that portrayed Jesus. He got seriously ill, I'm thinking heart problems (?), shortly before the crucifixion scenes. He said his agony was not acting. I think it's interesting that he recovered fully after the shoots were completed. IDK M30, until I see the '77 version, my favorite is "The Bible". Hey, I bet UTube has the '77 version…. truthbetold
The Passion! Aside from the obviously powerful scourging and crucifixion, I loved that it was done in Aramaic. I especially loved the interwoven scenes of how Jesus was a carpenter and joking with Mary and the extremely moving scene for me that mirrored when Jesus fall with the cross as a man, Mary scooping him up in her arms as a little boy when he fell. But I don't think any movie could match the choreography of Jesus of Nazareth. Every scene is a masterpiece.

I would think it would be but I also heard that it ran as an original series and also used to be shown in 3 nights? I just read a review where they said at the end when Peter asks Jesus to stay with them, he looks into the camera and says: "I am always with you". Between that and Final Word's description that each scene is a masterpiece... I am getting it! Thank you for sharing!
CarrieT
Victor Garber in Godspell. I was young and stupid and a nine-year old Christian when the movie came out. Despite becoming an occultist several years - and now several decades later - I still have fond memories of the movie.

One thing I noticed about the new "Son of God" movie is how the scene where Jesus reads from scroll in temple in presence of Pharisees is almost identical to how it was done in "Jesus of Nazareth". It's been a long time since seeing the interview, although I wonder if it was this that caused the illness. I remember him saying he wasn't sure if he could continue, but God gave him the strength…wow...

Author M30USA
I think it looks fantastic. Let me know how it is, please. G It will be entertaining I'm sure. And it will get people to discuss the subject, hopefully. But I already know it will be VERY liberal with Scripture. Russell Crowe is a good choice.
pie2
Out of curiosity, do you believe he was Caucasian with a British accent too? The actor's blue eyes are very striking, and beautiful (imo ). This recent article made me think of Jesus, and how we really don't know what he looked like ("Caucasian" is an extremely broad term). Ancient Europeans: dark skinned, blue eyed? | Fox News I think anything was possible when it comes to Jesus' physical features. Anything except him being really attractive, physically. I love this stuff. Yeah, I think Isaiah 53:2 tells us that Jesus wouldn't attract us with his looks: He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. I wonder if the Anti-Christ will be really physically attractive. I bet so. Attractive people do have an advantage in gathering a following, imo.

I bet so. Attractive people do have an advantage in gathering a following, imo. It's been proven in psychological studies that attractive people win the trust of others more easily than ugly people. I also believe most church-going Christians will follow the antichrist when he does come. I get a lot of flack for saying things like this, but I believe it's true. Only those born of the Holy Spirit will endure through his deception. Edited March 25, 2014 by M30USA
