When a guy walks you to your car

Recommended Posts

When a guy walks a girl to her car, does that mean he likes her or he's just being a gentleman to his friend

Note: he's done that with other girl as well.

I am southern so I was taught to walk a lady to her car regardless if it is the town librarian or my grandmother or a cute girl I am into, so I might not be the best person to ask. I will help you though by...

It means he's a chauvinistic pig who hasn't quite grasped the fact that women can take care of themselves.

It's stuff like this that depresses me, and shows me that feminism still has a long way to go !!!

Can you imagine if the genders were reversed? This thread would be 10 pages long already.

It could mean either one.

I live in a big city (and worked security when I was in school) and would never even thing about letting a woman walk to her car alone at night.

OP it definitely means he is a gentleman. From that alone it is impossible to draw any conclusions about his feelings for the woman. There simply isn't enough information. That said in a bygone era it was more the norm. Now since it's more unusual if I had to guess, I'd lean toward him liking her.

That's so sad. He isn't dis-empowering her. He is simply being kind. IMHO any brand of feminism that punishes people for being nice to each other is not worth having.

He's just being a gentlemen. I've had guys walk me to my car and have them open the door for me, only to not ever hear from them again. Well, it can be either way, unless you got a kiss and he wanted to see you again then walks to your car then he likes you, but no, if he just walks you to your car, then he's just being nice. It all depends on the other stuff.

In most cases it's just a gentlemanly thing, and likely taught by his parents (father especially) while he was a kid. By the time he becomes a young adult it's probably second nature for him...he doesn't think about it, he just DOES it.

It's no different than the guy walking on the street/curb side of the sidewalk when he and a woman are walking together. Or making sure she orders first while at a restaurant. And so on.

I will walk a girl to her car because its the gentleman thing to do, and to get a last final farewell.

But I will only do it if I like her.

We can already see how false feminism is destroying chivalry, and discouraging the use of it.

Ever stop to think that maybe he's just a nice guy? I have walked women to their cars. I did it just so they wouldn't be walking alone and maybe it made them feel a bit more secure. 99% of the time I was thanked for the gesture.

I'll caveat this by saying that I live in a city where it is common to meet for dates, not drive together. Parking is not always easy to find so it is perfectly normal to both come by Metro or cab.

I've walked women to their cars or the Metro station. I've waited with them until their car is pulled out by the valet or we can hail her a cab even when I didn't have a great date and had no plans to see her again. It's just the polite thing to do, and I live in the city where it can be dangerous as it gets later in the night.

Where it sometimes gets uncomfortable is when the woman reads more into it than I meant. For example, just because I am walking her to her transportation home, doesn't mean that I am going to go in for a kiss or want to see her again. It just means that I want to make sure that she gets back safely. I may not want to pursue a relationship with her, but I certainly don't want to see her (or anyone else!) mugged or worse on the way home.

BINGO!

And there are neighborhoods where I'd not let a woman, especially a young woman, walk through a parking lot alone even during the day.

That's not enough to confirm a man likes you. Unless he walks you to your car and tries to kiss you, then yes that means he likes you. But simply walking you to your car means he has manners and is a gentleman and many find it simply the proper thing to do.

When I go out with my platonic male friends, especially if we're returning late, if we walk home they will normally walk me to my door or car. It's not because they like me. It's because they're gentlemen and know women are often easier targets for attacks, so do it to make sure I get home safely. So yea, that alone isn't any kind of solid confirmation a man is interested in you, as it is also very common courtesy to do this and not necessarily reserved for love interests.

Side note: I am always amazed and puzzled at how "feminism" somehow gets dragged into conversations that have absolutely nothing to do with it and are in no way germane to the question.

Any context of when this happened?

Was it after a date?

When you got off work?

Was he a security guard?

Some guys do it because they think it's polite. I don't think you can read anything into it unless he asks to see you again or tries for a kiss.
