Thegreatestthing
I feel like the way I look really reflects my personality like I have a very 19th century Helena bonham carter face/ look and my personality is really old fashioned,I only like old things, romantic etc. Do we become like this because of how we look? or does the personality just fit the look ? I feel like I was always just like this, but the other day I saw a girl who had my old fashioned look but she was some kind of rockish punk type girl so maybe I don't know. Do you feel your looks reflect your personality

ThaWholigan
It's funny - I cannot really define how I dress and my personality seems to be similarly layered
tbf
Considering how surprised people are when they see my pics or hear my voice online, I'd say that my looks aren't reflective of my personality.
kodakgirl
Haha, I'm a lot like you that way it seems-- I feel like I'm a 1920s girl at heart and I totally have the face that was "in" in the 20s, young and cute and big-eyed. Us time travellers I think that part of my appearance is just coincidence-- my sister looks almost eerily similar to Lilian Gish (one of the biggest silent film stars) and she isn't at all into the time period, or old-fashioned stuff in general. Some of it, though, does come from your personality. Your typical facial expressions and overall demeanor, for instance, are very affected by the way you perceive yourself and how you want to project that to the world (consciously or unconsciously). Then of course there is how you physically present yourself-- clothes, hair, make-up. If I was a shallow party girl I'd probably have a totally different look than I do now, and probably that inherent 20s thing would be a lot harder to see. Interesting question! Candy_Pants
According to me, yes. Though I get mixed reviews from others.
topaMAXX
I've had many women call me "hot" or "cute" based on my looks alone. And I have a "bad boy" personality to boot (ie: a hot personality). I'm short though....so I guess the answer to your question in my case is "somewhat".
mea_M
I think to some degree this is true. Just thinking of how I appear and I'd have to say cute, always with a smile, thin yet athletic. And that holds true to my athletic ability. I'm always wearing a smile because I'm very happy and outgoing. Just me. Mea :-)
Eternal Sunshine
Hm...maybe more now than before. I am dark and edgy and I used to be a light blonde so no, not at all. But I have since changed my image a bit. I am still way more edgy in personality than looks though.

Same here, except that I try to express my personality the way I dress.
divinegrace
I am often told that my looks do not reflect the depth of my personality. I have a fairly soft look (medium length blonde hair, green eyes, wear interesting and subtle artsy jewelery, simple make up, and dress fashionably conservatively). I'm often told I look like a realtor. Don't know where that comes from. People are often a bit shocked when they come to know me. I sell sex toys for a living, have a snake (apparently I need to have tattoos on my face to like snakes?), and am extroverted, adventurous, and sometimes fail to filter my thoughts as they come pouring out of my mouth. I used to feel frustration that I didn't seem to have a look that matched my personality, but now I embrace it and see it as layers that those deserving have the opportunity to explore.
Valen
My looks definitely does not reflect my personality. That's kinda of a problem. Often times girls are attracted to my looks thinking I'm a certain type of guy (badboy type) but then I'm the complete opposite. I think I need to change my style but then I don't like the dorky clothes or formal wear. What to do?...

Phoe
I've always felt, even when I was a kid, that my looks are nothing like my personality. Sometimes it would bug me and I wished I looked different, but I'm stuck with this face so I make the best of it, haha
Shepp
I guess in a way..... I'm a pretty upbeat, sporty guy, and thou i would say my looks scream that - I'm blonde, blue eyed, big grin - I certainly don't have either the 'dark & mysterious' or 'brains of Britain' looks going on...which is fitting as i'm neither.

JourneyLady
Absolutely not. My real self is much pixie like and with wings to disappear with when frightened off by scary looking people -- or sometimes just for fun. When I was a tiny girl, my dad came back from overseas and gave me silk pajamas from Okinawa (and my mom a Kimono). So I always felt I was small with dark hair. The wings have been added. Because I don't look playful, but I really am. I also don't sound playful most of the time, but that's because I'm out of practice recently. There was the time I was on the trail by myself (I thought) and I was dancing to my music. Someone came around the corner and saw me and I giggled and quickly moved off and disappeared into the trees. I'd wished I'd had my wings then...
jonsnuh
OP, for clarification, do you refer to the clothing and attire you wear that suggest a culture/subculture? Do you mean the ethnicity that your genes express that suggest stereotypes? Are you asking if the composure you currently have is indicative of your true personality? Anela
I don't think so, for me. I've been trying to figure out why certain people expected me to be a certain way, underestimating me in a moral fashion for the most part. That isn't about me, it's about them. There are times when I can come off as intimidating, but for the most part people have no trouble approaching me in person. I'm not as soft as I used to be, so I'm surprised, unless I just had a deer-in-headlights look in the past.
Anela
This is actually something that has tied into a personal situation, as well: I wonder how much my age and looks tie into the accusations from my sister, a drunk mother, and others, that I'm jealous of my sister. I'm not, and I think that hurts even more than accusations from my sister: my mother thinks I have reasons to be jealous? Why?

Why?My impression of your situation is that you've been made a scapegoat in your family since you might come across as the softest "prey" or different enough to warrant the two similar personality types to align. Madman81
My looks don't really reflect my personality. I have a shaved head, a goatee, a few tattoos, and I wear biker boots and black t-shirts a lot. (When I first shaved my head a few years ago, a few people said it looked "badass".) And yet I don't ride a motorbike, I've never been in a fight in my life, and I'm a pretty gentle, non-violent, "nice" guy. I still like the look, tho.
FitChick
Your personality or 'essence' is the premise behind Jennifer Butler's color analysis which makes it different from the Color Me Beautiful Four Seasons idea that has been around for decades and is based on skin tone. I've had both types of analyses done and my colors for both are different. Color Me Beautiful was done twenty years ago and I've changed a lot since then. I wanted my style to reflect those changes so I had a consultation with Jennifer. Fantastic! My essence is Summer, softer and more feminine and nurturing so I've been changing my hair, makeup and clothing to reflect that to attract someone who is compatible.

I'm not, and I think that hurts even more than accusations from my sister: my mother thinks I have reasons to be jealous? Why? Yeah this bugs me. When someone accuses me of being jealous of someone, it's like they are implying that the other person is "better" than me in some way and that I have a reason to be jealous. It's actually quite condescending.
