danny12
I had a dream last night, I was cuddling with my girlfriend an then suddenly I got an anxiety attack, I was sent into fight or flight mode...for some unknown reason. THEN, I was sent into fight or flight mode again, a person was breaking into the house and I had to go fight them. So my stress and anxity were up the wazoo. then as I felt al this stress and anxiety, it goes and rolls over into me waking up, for a few minutes I couldn't feel ay emotions of love for my gf at all. Not until a few minutes later could I start feeling stuff. My question is: Does entering fight or flight response and having anxiety/stress and panic all cause other emotions to shut down that are not needed to fight or run? For instance, the emotion of love.
TaraMaiden
What dafuq......? No, it doesn't. Although survival is the primary intention, such reactions are a safety mechanism, designed, ingrained to implement damage limitation. It's a survival instinct. Love is an emotional response and actually, a mother is often driven by love to fight for her offspring.... So no. One does not quell/destroy/deny/prevent the other.

Yes it does! since when is love a required emotion to fight a predator? we do not need to love our opponent....maybe protection of a loved one is a response...But not feeling love itself. Its different from feeling love and protecting love.
TaraMaiden
Yes it does! WQell since you seem so convinced, why did you bother asking the question, which actually, wasn't very clear? since when is love a required emotion to fight a predator? This is the point you totally failed to clarify. you were not specific in outlining that the love had to be for the opponent. we do not need to love our opponent.... you don't need to hate them either.... maybe protection of a loved one is a response...But not feeling love itself. Its different from feeling love and protecting love. Describe how, exactly.
MidwestUSA
I know I've woken up from dreams extremely confused, wondering who that guy is next to me. I've also has episodes of sleep paralysis, and waking up from that is frightening; nothing seems normal, or right for a few minutes. OP, I'd suggest that those emotions you normally experience when awake were simply lost in that moment of confusion. My guess is that if you had a 'fight or flight' situation while awake, your love for your girlfriend would play heavily into the outcome. Make sense?
