Arieswoman
Sorry RZ, but this It is hard to get enough iron from anything but red meat. is not correct. see, https://www.vegsoc.org/iron# If people have iron deficiency then it may not be that the intake is too low, it could be the body's absorbtion mechanism that is faulty.
Author Robert Z
Sorry RZ, but this is not correct. see, Yes it is. Do the math and see how much of what you have to eat if you don't have red meat or cereal on your menu. Most people are inadvertently supplementing their iron artificially with breakfast cereals... And it is especially difficult on a low carb diet. No legumes allowed. Edited April 10, 2014 by Robert Z
Arieswoman
RZ, Well, I suppose if you don't like cereal then, yes, it is difficult. However, we all need cereals for a balanced diet.
Author Robert Z
RZ, Well, I suppose if you don't like cereal then, yes, it is difficult. However, we all need cereals for a balanced diet. Then you might as well take a supplement. It's the same thing. Cereals are artificially fortified with iron. I can't eat cereals. I have blood sugar issues. Cereals and legumes can both send me into a crisis. I haven't had a piece of bread, a bowl of cereal, rice, potatoes, or any high-carb or starchy food for over three years. And I'm healthier than I've ever been. These problems even plagued me as a child. Edited April 10, 2014 by Robert Z
drew232
Foods high in cholesterol are generally pretty healthy..If I had to go a week without bacon, eggs or beef I'd probably lose my mind. Yes, it's true that factory farmed meat is not optimal but neither is factory farmed anything Who knows if nitrates are dangerous..but one thing is certain, Saturated fat and cholesterol are not the culprits. drew232
However, we all need cereals for a balanced diet. True, but we all need to eliminate cereals for a healthy diet.
Under The Radar
I'm going to a Brazilian Steakhouse in a couple weeks with several of my friends for a birthday celebration ...... I'll definitely be thinking about this thread! Trust me, at my table, the wooden coaster will have the green side upright at all times. I might have to watch an episode or two from "Man versus Food" for mental preparation, motivation, and critical survival tips .
