Chakras - realigning them to heal yourself

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else read about chakras? I first came across the idea in yoga class, then again when I started collecting healing crystals. Certain poses open up different chakras, as do different crystals. For example, the heart chakra is located around your chest and you might be imbalanced if you have trouble forgiving people or trusting others. You can try to access it by doing fish pose or using a rose quartz.

I don't put a lot of attention to it, though I do have certain stones that I bought which relate to the chakra. I find it helpful to meditate on the stone. Right now I have a garnet, which connects with your base chakra. It has to do with survival, instincts, feeling that your basic needs are met. Blue stones are associated with the throat chakra. A balanced throat chakra allows you to express your true self. Quartz are multi-purpose and are supposed to help rebalance everything in general.

Who knows if it is real or not. I just think it's a non-threatening way to access my feelings and needs. I don't feel as embarrassed about my problems if I think of them as an energy system that is out of whack. The tools (crystals, poses, etc) help us by bringing our attention to the problem we want to fix, and by helping us to set new intentions for ourselves. Or at least that's the way I see it.

I agree that it is an excellent method for thinking introspectively about oneself- putting efforts into problems, mental/emotional/physical, can have a really good effect on ones sense of well-being. Not disputing that at all.

I would be hesitant in taking it too seriously- you seem to be cool with that aspect of it.

For me ultimately it is a belief, so really nothing short of 'faith-healing' by definition. From a scientific stand point the whole concept rests on fallacies because there is not one bit of evidence that shows there is a metaphysical energy that determines health based on whether it is blocked or not. In almost all cases it seems to be a placebo effect type thing where someones beliefs influence how they perceive 'results'. There were some instances of 'healers' in history actually unknowingly preforming hypnosis, bring real results though.

I am quite a fan of kundalini yoga- which is all about chakras in relation to the 'astral-body', and connecting to the oneness of the universe. I am a complete agnostic, so don't dismiss the beliefs, nor do I believe them, but as an exercise it makes me feel great.

As far as crystals go, I think it is nonsense, I can understand it being used in earlier times when scientific knowledge was limited, but now days, I don't know. There is not one bit of evidence that it does anything- it is all subjective validation, testimonials etc.

I honestly feel like these things serve a purpose for an individual if they feel they are getting something from it (validation, belonging, meaning)- always something psychological, but as far as actually doing anything, I don't buy it.

I think it is really sad that the majority of these things, including yoga, are commercialized- where if you couldn't sell it, it wouldn't exist.
