Training without contact

Recommended Posts

Alright guys!

I had a seizure last week (no symptoms or anything,) and got admitted to hospital. The doctors suspect that the rhythm of my heart was the cause of my seizure so I had a heart monitor inserted into my chest so there is evidence in cause I have another.

I've been advised by the doctors that I can't do any contact/heavy lifting etc for as long as the heart monitor is inside me (2-3 years!) My main sports were judo and kickboxing but now I can't do those anymore, I'm so gutted :(

I want to keep training and stay in shape but it can't involve any contact, I am a competitive guy so I'd like to do something competitive! I've been toying with triathlons as my cardio will be insane! But I want to do something with strength too as I'm a naturally strong guy! I've had CrossFit recommended to me, any good?

Is there anything else I could potentially do? Or if there's anyone with a heart monitor out there then your advice would be massively appreciated!

Thanks :)

Sorry about the implant - did they actual find any defects in heart scan/US?

Depends on what they/you mean by heavy - crossfit can still involve some noticeable lifting moves.

Less weight based routines like insanity using body weight might be reasonable?

Maybe TRX?

Running (or better yet interval or hill sprints), swimming, and maybe yoga to keep your flexibility?

Can't you still kind of train MMA without contact? I mean like contact of hitting a bag ? or no?

Take classes in ballroom dancing. Have you ever watched Strictly Come Dancing? Even pro athletes find it challenging. And you might meet the girl of your dreams or, at the very least, be able to sweep her off her feet when you do.

Otherwise, how about joining the Thames Rowing Club?

My ECG was unusual, which made them keep me in. Although I had ultrasounds, MRI and a test for inherited heart diseases and they all came out fine.

I'm not sure, I was told by the doctors I had to be sensible with heavy lifting/contact.

Definitely interested in the running/swimming, didn't think about the yoga! I'll have a look at TRX/Insanity!

Grappling (ie judo/wrestling) is out, but I should be able to strike, with a bag/pads but I wouldn't be able to do any sparring!

I didn't think of ballroom dancing, being 21 though I reckon I might be the youngest there! Being able to dance would be extremely useful though.

I'll have a look at rowing, my friend was a rower so I can get on his case!

Thanks guys :)
